There is a Lotus Carlton near me...
« on: 03 February 2010, 10:51:49 »

Saw one several years ago parked up with wheels off just round the corner from me, but i didnt live hear then, somebody had been working on it so thought it safe to asume it lived there.

And on the way home last night I saw it, or another?, 2 mins from my house. Big beasty it is too.

A quick google reveals someone advertising spares in the Reading area, these are rare, cant be more than 1 that close by surely.

I guess he'll be an abs member, i suppose i should buck up and try to brake in to the abs forum again. Is it me or is access to abs a pita?

Omegatoy put it in a pre-facelift gls, went pritty quick by all accounts.

Specs suggest 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, and 377 bhp. Be just as capable as a V8.... (although a 6.0 Monaro engine would do nicely!)

Be cheaper in the end! :y
You'd need a gearbox and rear axle to go with the C3.6GET engine, plus management, wiring, blah blah......... plus a shedload of cash to keep it sweet, turbo prices, hard to find parts...............

I know of one guy in Reading with an Elsie - but I really don't think he's pulling it apart! Is there a very nice grey Senator B with Irmscher kit on the drive aswell?

it was the password that was the stumbling block last time, do you still have to email admin for login details?

fairly sure he needs his engine anyway, and your westfield is quick enough, esp with its lack of weight, until i got in it that is, although these things always feel quicker in the passenger seat when not at the controles, i dread to think what 350+hp would feel like as a passenger in yours....

...as a driver however, now thats a differant story.

A mate of mine has 400+. He did a track day at Marham, IIRC. Got bored with bouncing it off the rev limiter all the way down the straight at 170 MPH. :o

My car is about 650kg at its' lardiest (spare wheel, weather gear, toolkit, jack, etc.).

Not sure on power output of mine but it should be in the 180-200 region. Last time it was rolling roaded it pulled 165bhp on weber carbs and it's a good bit quicker now that it's on injection and properly tuned.

Put a cossie turbo in it and it'll be heavier but got to be talking IRO 600 BHP/Tonne.

A guy in Barnsley bought a Dutton Pheaton kit car with a modded chassis, 2 speed auto box and a chevy 350. It had NOS fitted to it.

He reckoned it did 100 mph in 1st and 200mph in 2nd

Appaerty he had time sheets from Santa pod showing ET's of under 9 secs, and reckoned it was undrivable on the road without the wheelie bars fitted, Naturally we called him a liar.

When he left that day he said he was out of NOS so he warmed the car while we all had a nosey, when he set off he floored it and the front tyres were off the ground a few inches for the 1st few yards.

Appaerently that night he was going through wombwell past the police station doing about 60 and reckoned a ctraffic carpulled out after him put the lights on and came after him, he thought he was going to flip it as it booted into 1st as his passenger engaged the NOS switch.   :o :o left wombwell at an unmentionable speed with out the cop car in site.

He came back the next day with the remains of the NOS bottle, and yes I saw it pop the wheels up in both gears.

About a month later it was in the scrap yard  (He owned that as well) parked at the side of a garage with the engines gutts (what was left of them) hanging out of the side of the engine.  Was fun while it lasted I suppose.   ::) ::) :y :y

A mate of mine has a Westfield ex-drag racer that used to run down into the 9s.

Someone made him an offer he couldn't refuse for that engine and he sold it. Now has a Rover V8 which he's gradually trying to tune to the same level.

He's got a 3 speed auto box with a ratchet shifter but it doesn't seem to matter whether it's in 1st or 2nd  for most purposes, and 3rd isn't worth bothering with. ;D

Here it is:

Nice car.  The one I saw didnt have the full overhead cage on, but looked like it was adapted to fit one when required.   I think thier car was yellow and green.  Sounded the biz with the 350 V8 though.

Interesting lump here if can be seen/heard working and proven compression and oil pressure.

Some good haggling skills would get this for a projest for a good price.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Chevrolet-Chevy-350-5-7-V8-engine-good-runner-kit-car_W0QQitemZ300392746793QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item45f0cd8f29

Forget the carriage but this is not a bad price for chromed items either.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CHROME-CHEVY-283-350-TIMING-COVER-R4934_W0QQitemZ390131233403QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item5ad5a2327b

Easy to pick up cany chromed parts for these engines and parts are off the shelf and cheap if you know where to shop.   :y

how much does an omega 3.2 weigh? and i'm thinking 211 bhp?

1656kg according to parkers for an mv6 as it happens, so say add another 100kg for an elite with lpg and a tow bar

Power at Flywheel (BHP) :     211
Weight without Driver (KG) :     1756
Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) :     122.09
0 - 60 (Secs) :     8.53
0 - 100 (Secs) :     23.47
60 - 100 (Secs) :     14.94
Quarter Mile (Secs) :     16.92
Terminal Speed (MPH) :     84.90
Drag Strip Quarter Mile (Secs) :     16.72
Drag Strip Terminal Speed (MPH) :     86.30

hmm, makes the omega look a bit gay really

Power to Weight Ratio (BHP Per Ton) :       987.67

hehe, doesnt like the low weight of the bike but the bhp/ton figure looks about right to me.

power figures given are manufacturers quoted apart from omega which is taken from recent dyno results from other members, so not totaly accurate relatvely but makes little odds given the huge differance in performance

Hmm. :o

I reckon you could add at least another 100kg with the hypothetical LO engine (I say hypothetical because I doubt it'd physically fit!).

In reality I think a more sensible turbo conversion would be a cossie, or even a blown Zetec. Did once see a nice Hayabusa Turbo conversion. 8-)

I think the predictions for acceleration for the lighter cars are a bit optimistic. When the weather gets better I must take the Westie out with the AP22 data logger and see what it's actually achieving.

I think when power-to-weight ratio gets high the limiting factors are more down to gearing and traction. I'd be happy to get 0-60 under 5s without sacrificing grip in the wet and putting sticky tyres on it, splurging on a close ratio gearbox, etc. etc..

I reckon it got it about right for the Omega and LC, though.

The other issue is aerodynamic drag. Does it allow you to input that? Cd for an Omega is 0.31 IIRC. For a Westfield it's appalling. About 0.70. That will have more impact at higher speeds, so 1/4 mile time and terminal speed.

its all theoretical, it only asks for power output at the flywheel and weight in kg and if front or rear or 4 wheel drive.

What, and fall over every time I have to stop due to insufficient wheels?  ;)
