Just filled up - diesel pump did not cut off so spilled over car onto forecourt and over one shoe. Never happened to me before - reported it but got the impression they were not going to race out with sand. Bloody annoying - newish pumps as well.
-
Oh dear! And you get to smell diesel on your hands for ages after.
It's not something that's ever happened to me & I normally latch the trigger on when filling my Merc ..... look! No hands ::)

I wear the rather fetching plastic gloves available at most forecourts.

Just the one. And you may be on shaky ground for not bothering to use the safety equipment provided. :P

Happens occasionally, on just about every car I've ever owned. Can be the fault of the pump, the car, or a combination of both (must likely)

You wanna see the mess when the high speed truck pumps throw a fit :-X

They still have the latches your way? They were all removed down this way once stupidity took over from common sense.

I have absolutely no sympathy.
Serves you right for driving a planet/child killing derv car. :)

I always use the gloves as well, as I can't stand the stench of diesel. ::)
How the hell people manage to get it all over the handle, I'll never know... :-\

No. But I have a small pin on my keys that I poke into the holes on the nozzle ::) Just don't make it obvious as they'll knock the pump off if they see what you're doing. ::) ::)

I once tried the high speed setting on the pump at Costco ....... :-[

I didn’t realise anywhere in UK had them. Very useful in the States.

the latch is normally still there but the roll pin across that it latches on have all been removed. Very useful when you're filling a 93 litre tank. :y

Because we are not to be trusted with such technology.. I mean, look, the OP managed to get diesel on his shoes even without such advanced latching technology! ;) ;D
Even I remember the latches .. and I'm not that old. I still forlornly try to latch the pump occasionally, but I never thought about carrying my own roll pin! :y

Mine's stainless welding filler rod with a little loop on one end to go on my key ring :y

I can see some of our more "Albs" members coming home wondering where their keys are. And an attendant at the garage wondering why there's a set of house keys attached to his pump :-X :D

It's not often I get to feel like the young person in the room anymore .. at work the average age is probably high 20s and pretty soon I'm going to have to come to grips with the fact that we are hiring people who could be my offspring ;D :'(

I was working with Harry the other day ..... so at one time said 'Hurry Harry come on' ..... he'd never heard of Sham 69 ::)which was hardly surprising as he was born in 2002!!! :o :o
My kids are nearly 32 & 31 ..... and many of the lads I work with are a similar age :-[

If the kids had been united he would have known this. :)

I'm only 10 years their senior ;D I used to feel old working with a lad who is in his early 30s - actually he's a good friend now - but 'got my own back' when he moved companies and had to hire his own department.. his hires are all fresh out of uni in their early 20s and now he's the one feeling like the geriatric dinosaur who can't keep up :D

'Fookin ell'... Aaron you've not aged well. ;D ;D ;D
I still look fit and young. Keeping that old portrait in the attic has really helped. :y

That pesky used car dealer from Oxford used to call me a coffin dodger.
Even now I'm still in my 40s.

Last year I went into a new box on those government forms.
I was not impressed.

<dramatic voice> Into history! </dramatic voice>
I was having a melancholy turn the other day thinking about how life was ~25 years ago and how I'd love to be able to go back to my teens - when computers were fun because they were something to mess with without pressure.. maybe when I hit retirement* it'll be the same again. Of course, there's a fair degree of rose tinted glasses going on, I'm sure!
*About three weeks after my death, given current financial predictions.
-
Yes Aaron, and back in our teens if we knew then what we know now - especially regarding women - how different things would have been! :y 8)

For me, the nostalgic period was when I was at university, I've thought about it a few times lately as it's coming on 10yrs since I graduted.
But my rose tints are tempered by the fact I was permanently skint, and I really don't miss that.
-
Well....the sun is shining here today and life feels good (well, ok....ish ;D), so onwards and upwards.

Remember, Jimmy, memory is selective. My second wife died last year and, when I looked back, I remembered her with love. Then I had a word with myself and remembered why she was an ex wife. ;D

18 till I die. :)

I try to kid myself on that one too, until I look in the mirror and see my old Dad looking back at me.

I have that problem too ;D ;D ;D

When I was a teenager my hair was almost down to my waist and he would laugh saying that I would be as bald as him one day. I assumed he had some kind of old persons disease which caused this, and it couldn't possibly happen to someone as cool as me.
He was right though.

Thankfully I am not similarly afflicted, although I do find it strange the way my forehead keeps growing. :-\ :D

God always forgives the right people! :y
The trouble is that for some time now there has been disagreement here on earth as to who exactly the right people are. ::)
You'd think the old bastard would give us a clue at least! :)

Many years ago we were out late in Kent , pulled into a garage to fill up & was waved to a pump which was issuing fuel free of charge it was an automatic pump which took cash only no staff on site , felt a little guilty but not for long..😀
