Title: GPS laser change NCDC 2013/15
Post by: joff on 22 January 2015, 17:01:28
How hard is it to change the GPS laser unit in the NCDC 2013 head unit as they are only £25 plus postage on the bay of flea.

Thanks Rob, looks like a lot of work to me, but it's that or find another head unit but with a CID ( non Bose for the MV6)

Zirk has one set to Bose but it's the 2015 with phone.  :-\

Just to clarify the above mentioned Units is Non Bose  ;)

I do have a 2013 plus CID (No Phone) but that one is Bose.

Had laser replaced on my H/U some months ago as having issues reading navdisc.

By all accounts H/U has 2 lasers ..1 for navdisc and 1 for cd player...Got mine from Gerbers and although had the offer of it being replacred by a forum member was worried about sending unit by courier.Found local specialits who charged £50 but he did say it was a fiddly job .

There easy enough to do, about 15 minutes all in I would say.

If you are concerned then send the mechanism plus new optical pickup to me and I will change it (this is easy to remove and reduces size/weight for postage)

Sounds like a good idea, I'll order the part and if I don't think I can do it I'll PM you.

Now as the CDC is not working either can I take one out off a known working 2006 head unit and put that in ( both are non Bose ) would it need any coding with Tech2  :-\

Ok got all of that Rob, think I can do that. The 2006 I have is new so the CDC should last for a bit ;)

Which never got to happen, head unit is stuck in car with disc holder not moving. So how do I get the disc holder out so I can remove head unit, can it be done.

If you mean the 4-disc cartridge is stuck, HU can be removed with it in situ

Yep I know Rob, but if your remember I had snags getting the one out on the MV6 estate and you said put your hand in the disc holder with the cartridge out and with pins in pull the head unit out. I have the same snag on this one but the cartridge will not eject for me to get my hand in.
