Calibra 2.0 8v
« on: 20 January 2010, 23:42:14 »

I`ve been offered a calibra 2.0 8v for approx £100 it failed its Mot a while back and has just stood over the winter...I know the car pretty well cause i did the rocker cover gasket on it and stripped the worn leather interior out of it for a decent cloth interior.I reckon it want 4 new wheels and tyres and a new exhaust sytem front to back plus other odds and sods to get through Mot...Approx £300 the garage wanted to put them right...I just need to make my mind up on it......It would make a nice 2nd motor... :-/

They're nothing particularly special (as you probably know)... Just a Cavalier in a Shell suit ::) ::) ;D ;D

Just bought a new centre (vaux) & tail pipe (aftermarket) for my V6 Calibra and that was £140 trade, parts only so £300 to get it all done sounds about right.

Although there are a lot of similarities with the cav there are also a number of difference.  My Cali certainly handles a LOT different to my old cav.  The only thing that would put me off is the 8V engine....

The 8v's are bullet proof (well apart from the oil pumps), they even live through failed cambelts without even marking a valve.

Yep, that is true they rarely fail.  My comment was more directed at the performance although they are suprisingly nippy in the low gears

Only thing to check on a Calibra is the rear chassis legs, where the springs seat in them as they rot like f**k there.

Other than that it is just checking it for the usual Cavalier faults . . . . . .
