My 2.6 has failed the MOT !!
« on: 26 September 2014, 15:29:58 »

Went in this morning for the test, failed on the exhaust system (I had noticed "throatiness"). In amongst the service history of the 2.2 is a bill from the  Vauxhall dealership for a complete system from March 2009  including VAT came to £725.88, would you guess what I have been quoted for a genuine system for the 2.6 ? Out of interest the 2.6 has done just over 86,000 miles & it was the original system still on it is a 51 plate, the 2.2 is an 03 plate & the system was renewed at 53,886.The 2.6 has always had its MOT carried out at the supplying Vauxhall dealership.

Cat back for the 3.2 was about £240 3 years ago, 2.2 was £450 last week... plus a further £900+vat for the front end ;D

Obviously, both can be aquired elsewhere for about £100 :y

The quote was £660 +vat, however as the car is over 10 years old they can heavily discount it to £306.00 all in , the tyre & exhaust place I usually use reckon around £250 +vat  so it  is at the dealership, exhaust will be fitted on Tuesday.

This I trust you mean the sound of it? Any affects on performance out of interest?

Well got my Mig back yesterday OE exhaust system fitted and 1 years MOT with no advisories , first time in  my ownership it failed (had it almost 4 years) .So all in all I think cheap luxury motoring bought with 51,000 miles & 1 owner, now on 88,000 & apart from normal service items & new HBV no other costs ,saw it up on ramp when exhaust was completed & the mechanic at the supplying dealer commented how good it was & the only one they get in now, "a proper car" were his words so feeling pleased, it is just so smooth & a bit quieter now ! Total bill including MOT £391 .00 .

Exhaust came to £329.54 so a 50% reduction off rrp, I really want to keep this car as original as possible, it has always had genuine VX parts can't really see me getting rid of it.
