Buy with a bit of thought and a modern car doesn't have to be difficult to service.

Diesels complicate things with extra plumbing but every day servicing is just oil and filters so as soon as you move to repairs there's more crap to work around.

The Weather. Second weekend on the trot I've got soaked. Last Friday during the airshow at RAF Fairford, and today a the VBOA Show at Sywell.

With all the A roads around here being 50mph* and everyone insisting on driving 15mph below the limit, 35mph is the norm around here.  Until you hit a village with a 30mph limit, then everyone speeds up.


*And I'm sure all the 40mph limits on country roads in Oxfordshire will soon radiate out this far  >:(

Opposite around here, mainly 30mph, everyone drives at anything between 40 - 70mph.

Wait till Labour get in then everywhere will be 20mph limits and all new road projects will be cancelled as in the People's Republic of Drakefordstan!  ::)

Speed limits are irrelevant around here. There are none/hardly any fixed cameras and one chap who pops up in his camera van every so often. Obviously no traffic cops, so the only thing to slow you down is the car in front.

If a NSL road is reclassified at a lower speed limit, then it requires less maintenance. Even dual carriageways.

It's about 20 years since they started to knock the limits down around here, firstly the rural rat runs ostensibly to make the roads safer for pedestrians, horses and bicyclists. People still drive to the road though, so sometimes speeds are higher and some are lower.

Noticed that some of the villages around Daventry have now got 20mph limits in parts of them. There again, the state of the road surfaces around that area makes it necessary.   >:(

Feel sorry for our cousins in the Republic of Ireland though where road tax is astronomical!  :o

According to the Irish Revenue site I'd have to shell out €5290 a year for my 2008 Ford Mondeo 2.2TDCi Titanium X!  :-\

My Volvo 2004 V70 2.4 D5 comes in at a reasonable €3909 a year.  :)

Those Paddies don't know how lucky they are having a caring Govt like that!  ;D
