Fiat Multipla.

Ugly as sin but a great car to drive, very high and clear driving position and cheap-as-chips as no bugger wants one.. Unless he's got loads of disposable income do not go any where near a rangey.. If you want a cheap decent 4x4 go for a Kia/Hyaundai or a Frontera.

RWD and 4WD give a far superior and refined ride.

I love my job, but I also love working on my own projects, I've got an engine sat in the garage longing to be in my car, and it pains me that I cant work on it more  :-[

If your going Frontera you need the 96/97 onwards unit which is basically the old Isuzu trooper and has the proper ladder chassi....plus a good 2.8 diesel power plant......they still murder Discos off road.

They all have the same ladder chassis, the earlier ones had rear leaf springs which IMHO is better than the coil springs if your going to be carrying a load or doing some decent off-roading.. I've had loads of Frontys, one sport though which was a complete bag of shite but the LWB versions are great, 2.8 TDi is the way to go though.

Fit longer rear shackles, wind up the front torsion bars and fit some better shocks, they are great off road, loads of clearence :)

no personal experience of them ut from what i have heard seems to one of Vauxhalls worse along with Frontera!!

If thats anything to go buy its probably an excelent car, the frontera is one of the most under-rated cars on the planet. Its the Shitty 2.0 8v SWB 'sport' that gave it a bad name.

I wired up the loom and ECU today and attempted to start the engine on the stand, I've got fuel pressure, the fly by wire throttle works and so do the injectors but there is no spark :(

The coil pack has 6 pins but there is no reference to pin 1 (brown) on the wiring diagram, pin one goes to a brown/green 6 pin connector which also has the +12v supply for the injectors/flyby wire. I can not find any reference to two of the pins on this connector, one is brown and one is brown/green. I am sure these have to go to something for the coil pack to come to life.

Basically I need to work out where pin 1 on the coil pack goes to :(

Helpppppppppp  ;D

Cheers!

Road speed shouldnt be an issue hopefully then.. Dont suppose you know if the engine speed output on the simtec is 1 pulse per revolution? if so I can substitute that with the firing signal for a single cylinder .

I've just been on the phone to a KWP2000 interface supplier, he assures me I can read and write the map to a M1.5.5 with the KWP protocol.. lets see what happens  :)

Sorry, maybe I'm using the wrong terminolgy. The point I was trying to make is the ECU talks to the body control unit that in turn talks to the intrument control unit on single channels, i.e. there is no single feed for engine speed, coolant temperature that I can give to the bogo dash in the omega.

Donor cars are 2004 Zafira and a 2003 Corsa. The corsa ecu has far less interface with the other devices compared to the zafira that has all sorts of extra gubbins, I can get the ECU to come on line but it complains about not seeing the body control unit, hopefully this wont raise the MIL light and a limp home state.

AFAIK all of the Astra/Zafira turbos are based on the can bus system, there are 2 Other Omega turbos in the country both using the M1.5.5 and Z20LET ECU so its got to be possible :) And I obviously cant use the Body control unit from the corsa/zafira as it also relys on the corsa/zafira instrument cluster.

I'm going to bite the bullet and attempt to start the engine on the stand, I need to source a fuel pump and hoses first though.

More interesting problems.. The newer vauxhalls have a local bus system, each 'area' of the car has its own control unit which communicates with the ECU and other components. For example the Body control unit communicates with the ECU, it can then disclose engine and road speed, engine temperatures etc to the instrument control unit that displays it on the various gauges/lights. Obviously I will not have the body control unit so I need to supply the engine temperature and speed to the gauges some how, engine speed shouldnt be so bad I can feed one of the cylinder firing references to the rev counter that should be correct... bah who knows...

bloody modern cars!
