How on earth can anyone possibly forget.  The media have been wanking themselves senseless for weeks. Still, its made all but the saddest forget about Brexit.

Just rechecked our local candidates in the hope that a viable candidate had come forward. But no.

Usual bunch of knobjockeys from the main 4. One of the independents is a nutter, the other is a fan of trashing all the countryside to create houses for the lame and lazy.

None mention HS2 - in fact I've only seen the Brexit Party mention in, but they aren't standing.

What a choice of nobodies.  Christ, I'm even considering the greens :o.

If Opti was here, I reckon he'd go Labour, as she is only a single bag job. Leadsom and the Greens are both 3 bag jobs.

Fortunately, I think Labour stand no chance here, as its Tory belt, and this constituency were bigoted enough to vote Leave 54/46%.  Although highly scientific research* shows nobody here likes Boris' deal, so who knows.

I *WILL* go down and vote, but not sure I can bring myself to vote for any of the 6 candidates. Might be a spoil as a protest.

In India (I think), there is a NOTA option, which if it gets a certain percentage, that region has to go through the process again, but none of the original candidates are allowed to stand.  I think that's a cracking idea.

Imo, how you vote depends on whether or not you live in a marginal seat. If I lived in one I would hold my nose and vote Tory.
I don't, so I have the luxury of having a protest vote.
It has to be any tactic which doesn't allow Corbyn into number 10, unless your a lunatic by the name of Michael Heseltine, who said on tv last night that he would rather that scenario than a Tory victory. His europhillia has literally driven him past the point of insanity.

Never seen the point of "doing a spoil" it'll get the same notice paid to it as not voting in the first place so you might as well save some time and not bother turning out to the polling station.I know none of them are really worth voting for but someone has to be in government.

Brexit is the only game in town this time around. Normal service can be resumed next time. Its whether or not we finally kill off whats left of our democracy or give it the kiss if life imo.

I see, understand, and accept what you are saying.

However, we are privileged to be able to vote. And I feel that everybody* should/must cast a vote.  That's just the way I feel.  But I am really struggling to put a cross against any of the wet dreams I can chose from.

Cast my (completely pointless) vote this morning on the way to the office.

Like Eboy, I struggle with any of the shower of excrement that's on offer but hey ho. Given our constituency has never* had a less than 10,000 majority for the Tories, I don't have to give it any kind of serious consideration.

and that shows the tribal nature of British politics.
On the slightly more reasoned side, we were talking about this at practice on Wednesday evening when one of the ringers said "I've never voted Labour before, and can't believe how easy the current government has made it for me to do so".

Last night has ruined any chance of much needed UK government and constitutional reform for another generation.

Not that much will change(for me) with Boris, but that was the best I could hope for. The change that could have happened with Corbyn would have definitely been for the worst.

I've known too many politicians, both amateur and professional, to have much hope of that. The worthwhile ones are soon weeded out so as not to spoil things for the rest.

I thought voting was supposed to be anonymous?  I know my ballot paper can be traced back to me.

Isn't that a bit naughty?

It technically isn't, in that the ballot paper tally and electoral roll are on separate pieces of paper... But it doesn't take a genius to match them up.

OK, it has a unique number printed on the ballot paper, which allows whomever runs the vote to see the name and address associated with that unique number.

Surely they would only do that if they wanted to store and us that data.  Added to that, lets face it, the civil service don't have a good reputation of securing any data, so I assume it will be available to anyone soon.

If you wanted to mess with it, you only need to know any person's full name and address to vote, and as long as you vote before them, job done. Don't even need a polling card, so actually traceability is the least of your issues...

A couple of hours with a phone book and a decent map would probably allow you to cast a vote at at least three local polling stations before 8 am. Not sure what the punishment would be if you were caught :-\

No. My point being they have a record of who I voted for.

Theoretically speaking, but they aren't counted where you voted, so the two pieces of paper should never meet again once you have been handed your ballot paper  ;)

Have just bothered to check and the local Tory got in with an increased majority of almost 25k. That makes me spoiling my ballot slip totally irrelevant.  ;D

How do we know that though? I imagine the voting profile and demographics is very valuable....
