Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Re: Radio reception
« on: 11 March 2007, 19:51:01 »
Unfortunately they do have boosters/amplifiers mounted in the tailgate itself. At least on early ones like mine. Checked connections all okay and lead okay. Spoke today  to a friend of mine at Vx tech dept. in new Peterlee dept and he found out that there was a TSB on this if reception stayed poor then replace with roof aerial. Obviously an on going problem. And i may even get access to tis 2000 disc that was used for his training ;) watch this space

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Radio reception
« on: 11 March 2007, 00:27:23 »
Okay on my estate the radio reception starts of good then after about 10 mins becomes very difficult to hear sort of like a lot of very very deep base static. I suspect the aerial booster in the tailgate but not sure if it could be the x7 connector corroding as i found a fault with it on cd multichanger play back but i dont know if the aerial system runs through this connector???

The other alternative would be to fit the later short roof mounted aerial, Youv'e probably had loads of these questions but cheers guys. I did look in faq but no answers there :-X

Using my computer today and went to range setting and remembered that since i've had the car this has never worked, just diplays 3 dashes, rest of functions fine inc inst mpg, and no fault with dislay again all working fine. Tried pressing the reset and even started the stop watch but made no difference.
Any one got any ideas out there

And cheers by the way for your help c/d fault turned out to be the cable, broken wire behind c/d player under thick plastic sheath, quick solder job and all was fine

Cheers for help, turned out to be broken wire from c/d player under thick plastic sheath up to multiplug connection. fixed wire using soldering method and all appears to be okay at the mo.  :y

Ahh Barry Manilow at full blast through all speakers ::)

9
Cheers, i think i agree with you, trying another cable must be best bet first as connections all appear okay on head unit and player.

Does anyone know if its a standard multichange cable or are they all individual to manufacturer i.e mines a Philips so have to use a Philips cable? :-?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / left hand or right hand maybe both

Just wondering if sound when using my cd player is supposed to come out of lh and rh speakers.
okay but seriously when using my radio (SC804 with 6 disc in boot/load area) the sound is fine on all speakers but when i switch to cd player it only comes out of lh side, does this on all 6 discs and i've tried putting other discs in and cleaning them, alas to no avail. Has any one any ideas before i remove radio/dash front to rear cable. can i do any continuity checks on f to r cable do the colours stay the same or are they checked by pin no's, or am i looking at new player.

also just out of intrest can i fit steering wheel controls that are compatible with this unit or were they only for later units

cheers for any help :y

And Merry Christmas everyone

Omega General Help / Re: Brake Pedal Creep
« on: 11 January 2007, 20:22:43 »
Just a note. handbrake percentage has dropped from older cars to 16% due to split circuit braking. VOSA feel that the chances of both circuits failing on a modern car is very very small
point being that handbrakes don't have to stop the car any more just basically hold it on an incline to stop it rolling once the car has come to a stop.
Not to say that your handbrake shouldn't be able to stop but i would expect to see at least 30% of weight of car as your efficeincy.
What i've found normally gives a poor handbrake is continual adjustment of the cable to reduce slack.
Correct proceedure with drum style handbrake is to fully slacken cable/s adjust shoes up to just touch drum (don't rely on self adjusters working) back of a 1/4 of a turn then adjust cable/s to achieve correct h/brake cable. On rear disc models with h/brake shoes inside the drum of the disc relatively easy through hole in disc(with wheel removed!) with drum brake rears bit of a pain to keep taking drum off and on but a good time to check shoes and lip on drum for wear. not sure on 'meega's if there all disc any way.  :)

Not sure if i missed it some where but is your car a deisel?  If so continual pressure on the brake pedal while the car is stopped with engine running will induce the fault your describing due to the brake servo action and this is normal and applies to nearly all deisels on the market.  On a deisel it uses a mechanical vacuum pump to create a vacuum for the servo, so the vacuum servo action builds up on one side of the servo and in effect pulls the pedal down, on a petrol engine unless there is a fault with the servo (assuming no visible leaks , master cylinder has been replaced and brake action and travel feel normal when driving i.e they pull up okay and in balance) the amount of vacuum stays consitant with the engine idle speed. So if its a petrol engine and all the above okay i would suspect a servo problem?

Omega General Help / Re: 3.2 V6 missing.

okay okay i know what your saying, but just check that all electrodes are evenly spaced at least, you would be suprised at how many of these plugs have one or two electrodes almost touching the centre.
don't just throw??? them in :y

A lot of the time failure of DIS or coil pack can be down to incorrectly torqued spark plugs and incorrect gap on plugs.
due to lean burn, weak mixtures, plugs run very big gaps its vital that they are correct or not enough energy is released through sparking process so gets stored in coil or dis
As to torquing the plug it has to be correct to allow electrodes to be in exactly the right place in combustion chamber for efficient swirl burn of weak mixture. It can alter flame front of burn and cause the plug to overheat and as you know heat increases resistance in electrics and so full charge of coil or dis not dissipated properly again. charge builds up in coil and eventually burns windings.

So when you change those plugs torque them up and gap them. Don't just guess with your elbow torque wrench, or rely on pre gapped plugs out of the box. your not driving a low Voltage coiled Morris  Minor any more. This is modern high tech stuff! :y

Cheers Barge Captain.
Might change them anyway as i don't know when they were last done.

Is it right i've got 3 mins with battery out before remote losses programming?
and what battery or batteries do they take if anyone knows
