Omega General Help / Re: Oil from vauxhall
« on: 11 July 2016, 14:02:31 »
I bought oil about 6 weeks ago from my local Stealer parts dept. (Evans Halshaw, Hemel Hempstead)
I enquired about the long running 4 for 3 offer on oil, He reckoned that it had been discontinued as the cost of 5 litres had come down significantly.

Iirc 5L of 10W40 semi on TC was £10.14+ vat (5W30 was £12.30 +vat). (or fairly close)

I thought very reasonably priced.

Not noticed any coolant smell and no damp patches found.

Omega General Help / Red antifreeze
« on: 10 March 2016, 13:10:46 »
Hi all
I have a slow coolant leak somewhere which is a minor irritant. I have changed HBV and header tank cap but has made little difference. Never any visible signs of leakage so I will probably put up with it, and top up as necessary.

I can't always get to my nearest stealers when open as they tend to work same hours as me. Question is are all 'red' antifreezes compatible? I have seen red, blue and purple on eurocraparts for instance - would their red mix with mine without issue?

Omega General Help / Re: Blower problem - won't turn off
« on: 23 June 2014, 12:30:01 »
First thing to check would be the scuttle drain (passenger side). If blocked, the scuttle cavity fills with water and eventually spills through the pollen filter and into the passenger side footwell, via blower control electrics (including hedgehog).

If this is the cause you may be lucky if you clear the blockage. Impossible to tell until you try.

Good luck

Patch lead now done and audio through speakers. :y

If you are after cheap hands free get an earlier Nokia blue tooth system off EBay for less than a tenner delivered and away you go.

So easy.

Happy days.

 ;D

Would make a good 'how to' guide if you've still got the details handy?  :) (Especially if any pictures available  :y)

What I mean by a leak is a loss of coolant in the bottle I am not sure where the leak is .It is not evident from looking over the hoses etc.

Hi Robson, HBV leaks are often intermittent and may be started/stopped by turning heater temp up or down.

I've had something similar to his before, when towing at high speed - turned out to be fuel starvation.
Changin the fuel filter sorted it in my case - might sort yours. When was your fuel filter last changed?

I use Hellfrauds 6Nm-40Nm one. Even with suspect accuracy being at the end of a range, its still far more accurate than anyone attempting it by hand. No matter how large their penis is.

Whilst I can't disagree that a torque wrench gives a constant accurate-ish reading, the brass ferrule in the cover is there to stop you from crushing the plastic rocker cover, so anyone with any kind of mechanical sympathy won't go too far wrong with the use of a bit of CDF   ::) ::) ::) ::)

Haven't heard that technical term in a while  :)

Omega General Help / Re: v6 exhaust
« on: 05 March 2013, 13:18:10 »
Yes I have.  ;)

I think!

EDIT

Close, I bought this one

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VAUXHALL-OMEGA-B-3-0-1994-2001-Silencer-Exhaust-System-/150810088414

Need a system for my 2.5...its the same price, is it any good. Seems to me, on any exhaust system I have bought for any car, they never last much more than 3 years, wherever I get them from. £80 is better than £300 quoted at one place I looked ???

Should ask the question....how easy is it to fit, laying on your back under the car, with the rear wheels up on ramps :y

I have been asking the same question to myself, as I need to do the same sort of replacement on mine. So if you need a hand in doing it, I will pop over and gain some experiance before I do mine.

The job is quite straight forward, easy even......provided the old bolts undo rather than shear off. If they do snap then it can be quite difficult to drill the old studs out
even with good quality drill bits as access is a little awkward. So use plenty of plus gas before and during - to give yourself half a chance.

Had similar experience on a senator, where the window was happy to open but not close - intermittent. At least it was intermittent until the rain was bucketing down that day  >:(  (Had to prop a brolly over it until the rain passed)

In my case it turned out to be a plug/socket combination in the door post - just needed pushing firmly together. I've no idea if the setup is the same for the omega but it could be.

Omega General Help / Re: Replacement exhaust - Eternalcar?
« on: 16 October 2012, 12:58:30 »
I fitted an Eternal system a couple of weeks back. Very pleased with quality, and delivery was ok (within a week) but communication woeful. I never managed to get a response from their phone system (unless you count the ansafone telling me that it was possibly out of business hours!)
I orderred from their website in the end. The price is very good even allowing for international shipping.

I opted for a 3.0 back box with the twin tailpipes and I think it sounds better than my last GM system (which was of resonable quality and lasted about 6 years). Not sure if the nicer tone is down to quality or twin pipes? Either way very pleased with it.

One thing that I would suggest is a liberal helping of plus gas on the flange bolts for a day or two before changing. I did use plus gas but I still managed to shear three out of the four bolts - took me hours to drill the little 'stards out!

Is your external temp sensor working correctly?
(I think it directly affects the climate control)

Omega General Help / MOT failure - Idler arm
« on: 05 February 2012, 18:17:14 »
Hi all. as above, failed on excessive play to steering idler bush (and 1 or 2 x other items - already sorted)

The guide is very clear, and I have picked up a new idler from stealers, so will change this week.

Can one of the experts confirm that the geometry set up is NOT upset by changing the idler?

(The tyres had been wearing fairly evenly since my last visit to Tony up until recently, when the onset of wear on front inner edges crept up on me! :-[  Two new tyres required >:(  )

Omega General Help / Re: HELP!!!!!!!!!
« on: 17 January 2012, 13:17:42 »
Just as an extra thought, I had very similar symptoms on one of my cars a year or 2 back (Mondeo). I knew that the battery was a little suspect but it was ok once started with a jump pack. Before I got a new battery, It developed symptoms just like op's and was undriveable, with engine threatening to die and erratic power delivery. I thought I had a serious problem but changed the battery and all was well again.
