General Discussion Area / Anyone taken early retirement?

If I take early retirement, and in theory I will have 8 working years left, can I sign on? thinking to keep my stamp up........

It would be my plan to do some form of part time work to boost my pension, but just wondered; Can I actually sign on as unemployed and get benefits? I have worked since I was 14 years of age, so due something back........

General Discussion Area / Sad day in the vamps household today

Out old 'Fat Lab' was put to sleep, age 13 1/2 we have known for some time that the day was looming, but is still a hard decision to make, along side veterinary advice, she simply had little quality of life, poor balance, back legs kept giving way and a tumor on her thyroid.......

The decision was made yesterday but to allow various family members to say their good byes the deed was done today - no one wanted to come with me.

I remember when we bought her saying to swmbo that one day in the future we will have this to come, Miss Vamps was about 11 months old when we got her, Master Vamps was just 9.........................

RIP Turbo..................

Master Vamps will tonight be spending his first night in his new house, with his girlfriend, so all the boys have gone and we are only left now with Miss Vamps...............

This old overcrowded pre war semi suddenly has space, boys bedroom newly plastered and waiting decorating, with Miss Vamps keenly waiting to move into a larger room.....

Leaving a spare bedroom, just sort of thinking about fostering..........

Well I have them, 2 for the front, currently in the boot. I had a chat with my local Indi as my front tyres are low and need replacing, decided to buy a couple of 'cheapish' winter tyres to replace them. It will be interesting to see how they are............

At 10.49 I asked for advice on tyres, I also asked if there was any point in buying a pair of cheepo winter tyres for the front.............

No one has even read it yet, let alone advised............

No doubt some will think they can advise me.....   Pleas remember, I want a pair of tyres for a front wheel drive car...........

That or I am px if for a Citroen, the car I went out to buy in the first place........

Miss Vamps has been shopping with potential mr vamps jnr - notice the low case, aka boyfriend, in Darlington, she didn't spend her New Look voucher......

Just sent me a link and asked if I could order her a hoody, from her trampoline club, I had previously agreed......

Feeling mischievous I sent her a message back saying; They don't call me 'New Look' I don't take vouchers......................

To which I received a message from her; "I know, they call you Michael Steven Flood, bank of daughter and personal shopper under instruction"

swmbo and I just smiled, how can you say No to such a quick witted response.........

Whilst not currently driving Coaches I still have a licence to do so, reading a comment in another thread got me thinking.....

More so in the 80's and later as a mature student in the mid to late 90's I used to do Coach Driving on a part time basis.

My question is, with modern service stations being what they are do the drives still get fed for free, I remember going to the front of the Que, signing a book and ordering what you liked at any motorway service station. I also remember getting free fish and chips in Blackpool and Scarborough when they noticed your 'badge' which in the old days you had to wear on display.

I also remember my mate and myself often going to Washington services in the car for out tea, taking our badges with us and getting free food; oh the good old days.............

Not been moved for about 7 weeks as swmbo has been in hospital and recovery etc, anyway had realised the MOT was out and tax is due...........

Not expecting the central locking to work, it did!........... got in turned the key, and fired up instantly, doubt it even turned a full revolution, and nothing stuck either, when I moved it forward and backward to check; off to local indi on Thursday for MOT,service, rocker gasket leak etc, ; well chuffed.............

It would seem that the cat has brought Miss Vamps a present, a mouse, direct to her bedroom.........   In an attempt by her to find said mouse, an impossible task, she pulled out some cuddly toys from under her bed, and 2 big spiders........

So she comes looking for me, apparently there are 70 spiders in her bedroom and she is not sleeping in the room till I have got rid, up with the Vac, spiders removed, and 1 lecture later about the state of her bedroom and off to bed she goes, kids!.............

swmbo is still recovering so has not been using the Mig, however it is due it's MOT and Service etc which we get done at the end of August..........

Just happened to check the paperwork, test was due in June, I should have remembered as well cos it was a big bill as I had the belts etc done...... It was a previous Mig that was August test, good job it is out of use, just need to arrange getting it in and sorted...............

Well the long awaited trip for Miss Vamps to the Isle of Man for a week began today, took her to Manchester Airport this morning and off she flew, pick her up next Sunday.......

She is not a happy bunny and looks like she is getting the first possible flight back home tomorrow...............

She is staying with a lovely family who we have known for years, her friends stayed with us for a couple of days last year........

We did wonder......She is not quite as brave and confident as she makes out, boring old Me and swmbo can't be that bad after all.............
