Omega General Help / Part Numbers etc

Help! I'm after the part numbers for:-

Waterpump for a V6 3.2 (I'm guessing that it's the same one for all V6's)
Idler assembly (The part that MDTM re-packed with grease in the Cambelt change DVD)

Also, what's the recomendation for new ATF? Use VX's own Dexron III or is there something better?

Omega General Help / Lambda / Cat Heater

Trying to get a wiring diagram / pictures of the CAT / Exhaust system. My understanding of a Closed Loop emission control system is that there are sensors either side of the CAT but I cannot find any after the CAT - this is a 3.2 so it's slightly different to 2.5 and 3.0 I believe.

Was thinking of replacing the lambda sensors one at a time. Diagnostic tools say the error is generated from Sensor 2 bank 1 & Sensor 2 Bank 2 but of course this isn't necessarily the fault!

Original thought was duff CATs, emissions test proved they are good, second thought was dodgy petrol - well i'm on my third full tank now and it's still registering the code.

Any help appreciated!

Does the 'cannister' that the paper type oil filter sits in have an 'o' ring that needs replacing?

Omega General Help / Air Temp Sensor

On a late-ish 3.2 facelift  where is the incoming air temp sensor? It's not in the pipe from the airbox to the bagpipes as per the earlier cars and I can't see it anywhere on the intake before the airbox.

Omega General Help / Emissions lamp.... Again!

Emissions light is back on... less than a week after it was reset.

The car was emissions tested and the emissions are absolutely fine so the concensus of opinion was that I must have had a poor batch of petrol. The car has now had two half tank top ups (different garages) so I guess the best thing I can do is run it to empty and fill up again to try and get any remaining 'dirty' petrol out.

Anyone have any other thoughts?

Omega General Help / Locking Wheel Nuts

Right! Having a nighhtmare! As i'm off on holiday tomorrow I thought i'd check that all the wheel bolts aren't tightened to 'kwik fit spec' (Too 'kin tight), the four normal bolts seemed ok on each wheel so i've re-torqued them up to 55nm but do you think I can shift the locking bolts? No chance.

To make things worse they are the free spinning type so hammering a socket onto them isn't going to help, i've sprayed some WD40 all around them in the hope it'll free them off but I hold out little hope.

The really annoying bit is that it's one of the first things I was going to check when I got the car...   Oh well, can of tyre weld in the boot and fingers crossed while i'm away.

Anyone got any idea's? Something like 'press the hazard warning switch while standing on one leg and the locknuts will just fall off'?

Omega General Help / Emissions Lamp / Catalytic Convertor

Morning All

Just been on holiday for a week and the emissions lamp came on (lit all the time not flashing). Drove the car back to the caravan site and called the RAC (Asking them to just come out and read the codes), must have struck lucky with the RAC man as he was rather good with electronic diagnosis (on top of all of the standard RAC equipment he had his own oscilliscope, a tech 31 and various other code readers!).

The end diagnosis was 'Suspect CAT for Bank1&2, not performing to full potential, code P0420 (Bank1), code P0430 (Bank2) - CAT threshold'.

We could see the pre CAT sensor doing it's job succesfully - effectively reading and sending back a 'waveform' that you would expect, however the post CAT sensor was also mimicking this waveform as well which it shouldn't do as the output from the cat should need very little correction. From this he deduced that the CAT is not performing and recommended replacement.

Would people on here agree?

As i'm planning on keeping the car on for a while I was considering buying genuine new CATS (Do both sides?) from VX on TC, would anyone know the price?

Any thought's or comments most appreciated.

Omega General Help / Tappets - Engine flush

As MDTM has noted when he saw my car, the tappets are a little bit noisier than normal, I suspect this was due to the VX service intervals that the car had with it's previous owner.

Is there an engine flush (Forte?) I could use that people on here would recommend? Will it help quieten the Tappets down?

Oh and before anyone says it.... Yes will be changing the oil every 5K with VX 5w30 (NOT AN OIL THREAD!!!)

Omega General Help / Key / remote

If I wanted a spare key with remote is it as simple as obtaining a blank key and remote section from eBay, getting the key cut and and sitting in the car with the ignition on (Original key) and pressing the lock buton on the remote pad to sync the remote?

Appreciate it won't start the car without the transponder chip but really only want the key as a spare while i'm at work..... seems it would be very easy to shut the boot with the key left in there (Say if you were loading up) on a facelift and not be able to get back in - no boot lock / release button and doors still locked.....

Can anyone confirm that VX Part number 90492006 is the correct crank sensor for a V6 3.2 2002 /2003 meeega as i'm at work and can't escape to check my car..... really think I should be carrying one judging by the amount recent 'failure' posts.

Omega General Help / Coolant - mixing

Checked the coolant strength yesterday and found it to be a little weak (well the £1.99 tester from Halfrauds says it is!), so bought some VX coolant to top up.

The coolant in the car is a luminous yellow / green colour so I wanted to check before I emptied the tank and topped it up with the VX stuff (was then going to run the engine and check it a few days later when it's mixed up)

so the question is.... can I mix the VX orange stuff with this?

Omega General Help / Done the breathers... but....

Did the breathers as per the maintenance guide on here, quite easy when you have a go! Breather system appeared relatively clean but carried on anyway so I can practice for the next time.

Only problem is... There seems to be a slight hissing sound from the nearside of the plenum at idle, it's refitted correctly and all the pipes are refitted correctly (i've double checked). Now TBH I can't remember if it did this before!

The other problem is I seem to have lost 7mpg! though I have been flooring it, checking the multiram is working. Related problem? some sort of Air leak?

Omega General Help / Very slight squeek from ? Prop ?

When the car is in P or N and idling there is a very slight squeek, as soon as you increase the revs or engage D or R it disappears....

Doesn't sound load enough to be coming from the prop but does seem to be from round there.....

Any ideas?

Omega General Help / Glovebox removal

I know this has been asked before but.....

How do you remove the glovebox? I've removed the two screws (one each side), i've removed the passenger air nozzle and removed the hidden screw but it still wont budge. It appears you have to remove the airbag cover but I didn't want to do that without asking all the experts on here!

All I want to do is reach the VDA cable (the one that allows you to plug in your car phone kit via an Autolead cable) that is supposedly taped to the top but I can't see it.....

My only other thought is to try using a mirror!

Omega General Help / Just got my Elite!

Finally after months and months i've picked up my Elite! It's a 3.2 saloon with CID fitted and all the other standard kit!

It's certainly a change from the Vectra CDX!

Does anyone know where I can get a genuine set of Vauxhall mats? The ones that clip in? Tried the local stealers but I don't think the parts staff are old enough to remember what an Omega is!

Will post some pics up as soon as it stops raining and I find my camera!

Jobs list so far:- Want to clean the breathers (Asked James V6 to watch over my shoulder incase I get it wrong!) and get the Gearbox S/W updated (Will be PMing you soon TB!)
