Omega General Help / Quick cam cover replacement question
« on: 27 July 2016, 08:02:40 »
Replaced cam cover gaskets yesterday. But ran out of time so plenum still on bench and car in garage.

That awkward passenger side was a sod. And had to redo it 2 or 3 times so it got messy with the silicon sealer

Any ways in the link below....

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/index.php?topic=90542.0

See jaimes picture 8 where the sealer goes. Just behind it is a little square cut out on the cam cap. Is this an oil passage? Cos if so I reckon I may Have got some on it and I'll have to go in and do it again after cleaning it.

Cheers guys

General Car Chat / PAS leak fixed! and thanks to DTM
« on: 21 July 2016, 19:39:21 »
So for far too long I've had a pas fluid leak. Mark said it was probably the hose from reservoir to top of pump. I've had the hose from Vauxhall for ages and got round to it today.

Well mark u were spot on so thanks for that. It was so brittle on the pump end it was twisting round even with the jubilee still tight!!! But obvious it's next to the fannymould so it's going to get hot even with the heat shield on.

Also ages ago I broke off the battery hold down bolt in the battery tray so the plan was to remove battery and remove battery tray and drill it out and retap the hole. I then found out the battery tray is not removable and is part of the oppsing wing! Lol so had to do it in situ. Still piece of piss and I now have the oem hold down back. And even painted it as it was a bit rough looking. All in all a nice couple of jobs ticked off!!! Feels good 👍

Omega General Help / Alignment query (again)
« on: 18 July 2016, 16:16:25 »
Hi guys,

I just got back from my hols and drove the old girl from Northampton to Somerset and back.

Somerset is lovely! Could quite easily move there!

Anyways, the handling was interesting  :o

Now I posted about this earlier on in the year but I haven't driven on a long journey since. The facts are:

I did an alignment measurement at work. I got my front toe 'in the green' cos the car was all over the shop. That's now improved. Couldn't tell you what the exact figure is though.

The rear toe and rear camber are in the red. I forgot to print out though so I've no idea what the figure is.

I have cheapy budget tyres on but they're brand new with no wear as of yet.

So, TB and markDtM kindly added their thoughts. I've re-read and tried to absorb the comments on my previous thread.

However I feel I can now better describe what's going on.....

At 70 and above the car is twitchy. It feels like a wander and I'm having to work the wheel a little bit to constantly correct this. Below 70 the car handles ok but with some slight wandering.

Things of note are that there were two hefty bears in the car  ::) ;D and a ton of gear in the boot.

I've come to the conclusion that instead of setting up using our machine I'm going to admit defeat and get it booked in at WiM again as im not a geometry expert: my expertise is limited to adjusting front toe on cars I've just stuck TREs on lol

Anyways is it likely that this handling weirdness will be sorted after a session at WiM? As mentioned previously I'm getting a new set of tyres afterwards. And instead of getting new track rods at the rear I'm going to do what TB did and hose them down in penetrating oil for a couple of weeks prior to a visit.  :y

General Car Chat / V6 cam covers
« on: 06 July 2016, 19:09:43 »
Evening guys. I need replacement cam covers for my 2.5 v6.

I had an eye watering quote from Vauxhall.

So two questions. 1. would motor factors sell them and if not 2. does anyone have any non warped ones for sale?

Cheers ladies

General Car Chat / Poorboys trim restorer
« on: 30 June 2016, 18:44:19 »
So bloke at work loves his cleaning / detailing products. Sadly this has rubbed off on me after seeing some of the results.

I asked to use his trim restorer just to see if it's any good. Thinking it was just gimmicky crap I was actually amazed with the result!!! It looks quality!

With a spring in my step I get straight on the net for some detailing essentials. The PB trim restorer is stupidly expensive.

Is there an alternative that's just as good and cheaper?

No wonder it's called poor boys.... you break the bank buying this stuff!!!!

Omega General Help / Steering wheel play
« on: 29 June 2016, 19:30:07 »
Evening guys,

I noticed over the last couple of weeks that I have slight back and forward play in my steering wheel. Just so we are clear it is back and forward (not left to right like when you steer). It's annoying me cos it makes a slight clicking noise and I can feel it in my hand.

Is it possible the securing wheel centre bolt needs tightening?  :-\ if so, pop the airbag off and tighten?

Any tips or advice would be GRRREEEEEEEAAAT  :y :y :y :y

Evening guys

So I'm looking to educate myself a tad. Now knowing there are members on here that find Nicola Sturgeon attractive this is probably not the best place for sensible answers  ;D

Anyway we've got a new chap started at work and he clearly loves his rovers. To the point where if I hear the term 'k series' much more I'm going to lose it lol

Any ways is there anybody that knows what exactly went wrong? Why was a British company allowed to go to the dogs? Having never owned a rover were they properly shite cars.

Educate me fellow oofers  :y

General Car Chat / 57 vw golf tdi vacuum pump removal
« on: 20 June 2016, 13:36:06 »
Hi guys.

Got the above car in. I'm removing the camshaft cos the valve stem is poking through the top of one of the buckets and has ruined the shaft. Euros do a repair kit with camshaft and buckets assuming the guides aren't shagged.

Any ways I've timed it up removed the belt etc. But before I can remove the camshaft I've got the vacuum pump at the rear to remove. I've removed two large multi spline bolts. But I can't seem to find the others. Any clues? My boss is on half  day so I'm kinda on my own. So figured I'd ask you guys.

Hi guys. So as per posts before I used t cut to mend some scratches caused by mummy bear. Worked really nice. Will try and get photos up in a bit.

I have been meaning to restore my headlights for bloody ages.

To save buying an actual kit can I use my t cut? Damp cloth, circular motion etc? Then we have some sealer left over from a quix kit.

What do we think. Headlights are not horrendous by any stretch but have started to go yellow. Offside worse

General Car Chat / Some moron's given me an AC license
« on: 08 June 2016, 20:37:35 »
With summer upon us and many people booked in for AC regassing, my superiors thought it wise to get someone trained up following the departure of our sole AC trained mechanic.

Step up stoopid bear lol

So gets my first AC booking in today. I've dolled up to the nines with full face yellow glasses and blue marigolds. I lift the bonnet, go to connect the machine to the ports to find someone has severed the low pressure line in two  :o

Line only available from ford. At 90 plus vat.

I'll just have to wait to do my first gas. Though we got 4 booked in tomorrow so ain't got to wait long.

Omega General Help / Bonnet scratch help
« on: 04 June 2016, 16:32:27 »
I went to my mums after work the other day moaning that I had to park under the trees and there were clearly bald eagles in the area judging by the size of the bird shite on my bonnet.

Anyway due to living arrangements at the moment wifey picked me up in her car and I left eeyore (the omega) on me ma's drive.

Went to pick it up day later and bless her she'd got the bird shite off. But used something like a fekking Brillo pad as I now have two horrible light scratched areas on my bonnet. I was upset. But not with her as she was just trying to help.

However now I gotta do summat about it. Spoke to head mechanic, he looked at it and he said it that should polish out.

Now bear with me as I know fek all about body work.

Wifey has got me a bottle of t cut. Original.

Do I simply apply small amount, rub in and then wash off?
