V6 FL speed sensor

Hi guys

I am quite a fan of Omegas. Now I was made an offer I couldn't refuse for my car (to be fair guy is gathering that sum of money so deal should be made in the end of this week). If all goes according to plan I will be buying another Omega. I have found a good bargain

Bear in mind its in Bulgaria ( I live there).

Seller says it has MIL on and upon reading it by specialist he recons its speed sensor as speedo doesn't show speed as well. Does it sound legit?

Is it on the gearbox or diff???

Or maybe it reads from ABS sensor???

1998-2003 cars are prone to ABS ECU failures, though more common on V6.

If the codes say wheel sensor, it normally is, but can be wiring loom as well...

Er, do you mean 98 2000?

Car also appears to be right hand drive...?  ???

It is a v6 2.5 24v RHD ( its legal to drive them not a problem) Vauxhall
So should I be more careful than? What should i look out for? ABS ecu price range? Or is it repairable?

Papers in Bulgaria are quite simple - i have personally imported over 20 cars and trucks. Once its on bulgarian numberplates all other pre import paperwork becomes redundant.

Can you tell me more about this ABS ECU issue? Does one need to replace the ECU or is it reparable?

ECU repairable, but I think considered not to be a DIY repair.

Replacement 2nd (if known good) possibly best (but must be right type)

I am reasonably good with electronics as its one of my hobbies. have played with SMD stuff quite a bit( not the best of my memories thou). It that fails - i know a guy who specializes in ECU repair. So all is good. Anyone done ECU repair on here?

Any tips what to look for inside? I am just gathering as much info as possible as to know where am i standing when I go to see the car. its 250 miles away!!!!

There is a photo somewhere on the site, looks like a bonded wire comes adrift. Whilst on the face of it, it sounds easy enough, I'm told its not.

Bosch arranged a series of very fine silver wires to link from the multiway connector to the circuit board. They also used some slightly heavier aluminium wires. They then sealed the wires in a jelly like substance.

The intermittent failures are caused by the wires breaking away from the circuit board.

There are companies in the UK who are capable repairing them. Bosch supplied similar units BMW (which also fail). It wouldn't surprise me if there are people in Bulgaria with the skills and equipment to carry out the repairs.

Thank you very much - from the looks of it will be ok to do it DIY. Even if I fail that guy I mentioned earlier managed to remove immobilizer from Honda Ecu when i lost my key ages ago. No one could make me another key even Honda Bulgaria. Upon inquiring about it at Honda UK they were astonished by the price as well - they wanted
£350 and 2 weeks min. time to order from Japan. Took this guy one day and £50  ;)
