Hi guys just wanted a bit of info for the weekend on where to start with a misfire. I was driving home from work about an hour ago and car was running fine. Came off a roundabout and the tc kicked in and now I have a misfire. I dont understand what could have caused this. No lights on on the dash, I have tried turning the car off and back on and its still doing it. Could it be something simple or a major job like head gasket. I hope its just something silly like spark plugs or coil pack. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I had similar symptoms once - turned out to be DIS pack, but could just as easily be a plug or lead problem ........

As above. Check plugs,leads and coil pack. It did rain alot yesterday so could have been water going down no6 plug well from the scuttle.

would it not be a good idea to check for codes before delving into the unknown?.

Doubt be any codes. Might be misfire code.

It's an engine designed for FWD too, so middle of engine bay on others. Always a compromise when designed for both drive methods.

Sounds like dispac. inspect it for obvious signs of it being shagged. also worth doing resistance checks and compare against spec.

I would take the opportunity to replace the leads and plugs too. leads from ECP about £30

Thanks guys will have a look at weekend. I did check a couple of the leads today by pulling them out and all had oil inside the plug hole. I am assuming that this is something to do with the rocker cover gaskets. May that might be a contributing factor to the misfire aswell. Any suggestions on how to get the oil out or should I just take the plugs out and let the oil go into the cylinders?

Thanks guys will have a look at weekend. I did check a couple of the leads today by pulling them out and all had oil inside the plug hole. I am assuming that this is something to do with the rocker cover gaskets. May that might be a contributing factor to the misfire aswell. Any suggestions on how to get the oil out or should I just take the plugs out and let the oil go into the cylinders?

use an old syringe with a bit of washer tube or similar to suck out the oil and clean the plug lead end with brake cleaner, once dry try it and see if the misfire is gone,mine did same when I first had it and ran fine afterwards until I got chance to replace cam cover gaskets/seals

All sorted now. Cheers for the help guys.
I used a syringe and a piece of tube to suck the oil from the plug wells, all 6 were flooded which means rocker cover gasket change is on the agenda. Will use genuine this time round as recommended by everyone on here only used pattern when I did the head gaskets as they came in the kit.
I changed the plugs and the dis pack and problem solved.
Back to more hassle free motoring for a while hopefully.
