my wifey is looking Tigras as she says they are pretty chickey cars and really would love one if she had ...Do you have any info about them in point of what worth seeing accurately when buying?

Depends on the owner's careness. I can't spend too much money but want to make my wifey happy.It's certainly not impossible to buy an old car in good condition.

Lol. Sadly mate, it's not mine to sell.... (thinks about the future possibility of selling the college's cars for cash   )

It was an offer for info on them once I've looked. It's an old one (English 'T' reg). So I'm thinking it's weak spots will be showing themselves :0

Plus, Autodata will show any service bulletins... i.e. any known faults.

There pretty rugged, I always recall it being easy to trap the seat belt buckle in the door when shutting it so check for marks/dents around there and damage to the belt.

Rust wise, there not to bad, a bit can be found around the front strutts but is not to hard to address (same as a Corsa B in reality).

Engines are pretty ok if serviced, stem seals can go circa 100K miles and 10-15 years old.

Lady over the road has one. It's served her well, although its low miles and always garaged. Few issues with drivers door lock, egr valve throws the light on occasionally which is right down the back of the engine. Exhaust fell off, but cheap to replace.

Torque steer is horrendous, for me.

Edit, this is the pre face lift/original model. 1.6 engine.

As the likes of the 1.6 16V has reasonable power to weight, the under steer can be countered some what with good tyres and a dab of throttle.

Slap some better shocks and slightly lower springs and it improves things quite a lot.

I have to say that the Puma of that era was a better handling car but, it has some significant rust (floor pans ala Fiesta), engine and gearbox problems.

They aren't as wide as an omega, but the head room is EXACTLY the same with a sun roof in both.(not having a sunroof in an omega gives considerably more head room, as Als ex plod proved today with the same Elite seat as mine)

Ive got an old S reg 1.4 Manual LPG, that I use for pottering around, great little Cars, handle like Go Karts with the right Tyres on them, really goof in the snow as well.

Not much in the 1.4 vs 1.6, being LPG I can stick around 25 quids worth of Gas in it (Spare Wheel) and get over 300 miles on Gas.

Rust areas can kill them for Mot's, sreas effected or Rear Arch, Rear Body just above the Bumper, and around the Front Suspension Areas, still plenty out there going strong after 15 plus years.

Go for a Manual. 16v, back seats are bloody uncomfortable, but fold them down and you have an instant Van tons of space in the back.

Im 6,2 once you master the art of getting in and out of them, loads of Head Room. common faults are wet rear condensation on the boot which is caused by the rear water holes near the rear Hatch Shocks getting bumged up, need cleaning with a toothbrush once a week, check the NS Window automatically opens and shuts a few inches when you close the Hatch Door, or youstand the risk of blow the HatchGlass out, Head light Bulbs a real pain in the arse to replace, Lambda's and Air Sense fail, cheap fix, apart from that, easy to maintain and cheap parts, and easy to work on.

No, it is just a plan on a not too close future, think it's gonna be done up to the next crimbo or so...
