Well the seal had gone in it and its a '13 plate 5 series. The cost £850 for the unit and basically the whole front of the car has to come off which our guys at the garages will do ::) ::) ::) then said unit removed / replaced. Then it has to go to BMW for the electrics to be synchronized  :'( :'( :'(

So all in all probably about £1500 if BMW were fitting too!!! Gulp :o :o

A mate of mine bought a 11 Reg BMW 5 series, not from BMW but from a big car dealer. Of course it needed an MOT so that was part of the deal. Problem was the side lights didn't work. The garage tried to get them to work. These are just halogen headlights not xenon - anyway no joy. In the end off to the BMW Main Dealer who took days to fix it. They just replaced stuff until it worked (seeing as the customer was paying) so two new headlights and a headlight control module later..... a bill for the supplying garage for £1400 + VAT.

My mate was very relieved to get that sorted before he got the car but now bricks it every time there's a glitch or warning for anything on the car...

As it's bound to be a complete unit with all the pointless crap in it, £1375.28. Fitting it will take hours, as you'll need to dismantle most of the front of the car to access just one of the fixings, and still the need the dexterity of a gynaecologist.

A lad at work has an A6. The DLR is u/s on one side, as the DLR is integral to the complete headlight, Audi have quoted him the best part of £1000 to replace it

"or we could disable the DRLs and be done with"? Or is that now verboten on new cars?

Do cars really need to be that complicated and expensive?

If its M-sport suspension, is the fault "moves in a fashion that would absorb bumps. Unacceptable level of ride comfort"?

There is a big back order problem with the rear airbag units on the 5-series tourers. Our place has a few on order, expected delivery hopefully in the next 4-10 days.

Does your dealer contact BMW and let them know it is a police car? They should as that means they get priority when the part becomes available and they jump the queue.

That is what we do anyway.

We had one that needed 2 rear shafts and a diff, the day after they arrived from Germany, we had the lot delivered overnight and the car was done the same day.

Then get your transport manager to kick them as they should be doing it, that is the point of that service.

Watched a program on one of the sky channels the other day where they break cars, Audi A8 electric drivers seat list price £4800.00 , no wonder you can buy the cars cheap after a few years.

What was that programme called?
