heated seat smell burning.
« on: 14 February 2016, 19:03:40 »

Hi.
Switched my heated seat on tonight and it got warm and then a sudden smell of electrical burning.  Immediately switched it off. Foolishly tried again ten mins later and got the same smell. So obviously not blowing the fuse. Omega 2.2 dti cdx
Is it worth removing the fuse?
If so. Can anybody tell me it's location.
Any suggestions as to why this may happen, as I can't see any smoke or burnt wiring?

From what I've gathered from various posts the heater pads can fail/short out and begin scorching the seat material from below.Heater pads can be replaced I believe but is much easier to do on cloth seats than leather ones.

Thanks BazaJT
certainly can't see any burnt wiring and the smell (electrical) is certainly only happening when the seat heater is switched on. Obviously I won't be using it until I can get it checked out.
Do you know the best way to disconnect so it can't be used, will pulling the fuse do this or is there a connector on the seat somewhere?
Many thanks

Ons of my clothe MV6 ones burnt a great hole through the seat and filled the car up with smoke on the M25 before I realized wtf was going on.

Ouch Zirk. I'm hoping that doesn't happen to mine (cloth seats also) Do you know where the plug connector is located. I assume by not switching it on it can't get hot.

Theres a connector under the seat, but your probably end up pulling the Air Bag connector off as well, so just leave it be and don't use the seat heat for now till its fixed.

Supposed if your a bit paranoid about it getting accidentally switched on, you could pull the on / off switch out from the housing next to the HU.
