Insurance Renewal Time
« on: 22 April 2023, 12:50:37 »

It is coming to that time of year again.

I have been with the RAC insurance for the last 2 years and just recieved next months renewal price.

Your renewal price: £219.87
Last year's total: £201.05

Got to be honest I am surprised with the price. :y

I then had a look on the comparison sites and found I can get cover for as low as £156 with Esure (I think it was) ::)

Yep.

House insurance quote 35% higher than last year.

One phone call later 5% cheaper than last year, and 20% less than any other company. :y

Following my trip to Cornwall last month, I'm expecting car insurance hikes, as everybody had forgotten how to drive any distance, and failed to keep in on the black strips.

It was every 10 - 20 miles some moron had parked into the central reservation of boot of another car....

So true :y

Years ago there were 2 HHH (Hill House Hammond) insurance offices in Sheffield, I used to love bringing the price down to see who was coving the policy that year.

Admiral when I was on the multi car policy I found that the price just got cheaper and cheaper depening on the country the adviser was in.

These days its comparison sites.  At the end of the day its the price and cover options that matter and not the sales service offered.

That sounds quite high, but obviously don't know your circumstances.  Mine has generally gone down every year since batflu, and I'm paying under under £400 for 2, business use, protected NCD, blah blah.

Another thing I realised was the time of year the premium was paid.

I used to renew in December, but a change to May brought the premium down by 40% .

Change of address 14 years put my policy up 26% simply because of the lower postcode address.

So many things define the renewal premium (Mainly the sales commision - hence comparison sites getting cheaper all the time)

I have all the extra's  I opted for the £100 excess in case of a claim (£250 made no difference)
I pay in full - not monthly
Max NCB
I Anual mileage set at 2000 as I dont use the car that much but higher values dont change it too much.
62 next week :-\
Social, domestic and pleasure - fully comp.

I thought £156 was a reasonble price.  £3 a week  :y

Because I hit 70 next month, and live in Barnsley, my renewal was 40% higher this year. Around £400. I just let it renew, life's too short.

You have plenty of time to pick up the phone or find the best deal on the meercats, while enjoying a beer. :) >:D

I've just had an interesting week re Insurance over here in Ireland  .
We have ordered a new car and after laughing at the derisory trade in value of our Yeti I decided to keep it .
It currently is insured in my wife's name but as she cannot drive at present I had to get it in my name .
Now over here your NCB is only valid for two years after the last policy ends that it was attributed to .
I transferred the Omega onto a classic policy two years .....and three weeks ago .
I approached the last insurer whom I had been with for several years and they flatly refused to honor or even give any sympathy to the situation and stated that I would be starting from scratch.
I explained that I had a comprehensive policy with 17 years NCB on my van , previous provable ncb with themselves and others , named driver experience on my wifes cars for 20 years + and two classic car policies .
Doesn't matter says the girl... you are in the same position as a 17 yo new driver >:(
I went to the broker that I use for the van and within a couple of hours she comes back with a couple of quotes , one being from the company above , that were quite happy to accept the NCB on the van as proof positive of my driving experience . The quote was reasonable ,probably near to twice what you guys are paying , but insurance is expensive in IE .
I opted for the other company due to the attitude they gave me initially.
The company I chose is the one that my wife uses at present and my new premium is over €120 less than her renewal premium even though she has no penalties , convictions or claims and has been with them since 2019, nor are they aware of her medical condition.
I also went out for quotes to renew our house insurance and the two new quotes I received were €600 apart for the same proposal details ....
A mystery wrapped in an Enigma

That two year limitation to carry over any NCB from a previous policy that expired over two years before also applies over here too. Although how rigidly companies adhere to it, or if they allow any 'grace' for a period or three weeks I'm not certain, but I would have thought they would want your business? They usually need to ask for their 'Managers' discretion for decisions out of the ordinary, but I'd have been tempted to try elsewhere.
But it seems you are sorted now anyway.....

Not due till 14/18th cant remember quite when,

But had an email from a comparison site.
Am sure both are good insurers, but will wait a tad longer to see if the RAC can compete with a price to stay with them.

Aviva £161.26
Zenith £168.05

Looking good so far :y
