Facelift 2.5 CDX in Star Silver
« on: 21 February 2010, 14:09:29 »

Offered for a very reluctant sale is my 1999, Facelift 2.5 V6 CDX Saloon presented in Star Silver.

MOT until October 2010 - only  advisory at last MOT  was exhaust gasket, which is now sorted.
Tax until end of May 2010
Milage 107k and climbing as in regular use.

As a bit of history - the car was originally a Demonstrator for VX. As such, it has a rear spoiler, and what I believe is a front irmsher bumper(!)

It was then owned by forum member NaughtyNigel here, who owned the car for several years. It was then aquired by me in around October 2009 as a project to repair - in addition to my daily runaround Estate.

When I bought the car, it had a suspected coolant leak, and a blowing exhaust manifold gasket.

I therefore carried out a full top end rebuild, to bring it back to it's former glory. In total, 4000 miles ago, I did:

  • Both Head  gaskets (and bolts)
  • Both Exhaust Manifold gaskets (Genuine GM)
  • Timing belt kit (full kit) - and waterpump
  • New DIS Pack (Bosch, so OEM genuine item)
  • New Gen GM Spark plugs
  • Camcover gaskets and O rings - both sides - using
  • genuine GM  Dealer parts.
  • 5l genuine GM Longlife coolant

In addition to this, it has had a few subtle engine modifications at the same time - namely:

3.0 Cams (usually an increase of  15-20bhp)
3.2 Exhaust manfolds (better flow)

As the later manifolds are fitted, the EGR Valve is blanked off, and the Secondary air injection is removed.

The front brakes, and full cat back exhaust, was done not too long before I owned the car - the exhaust certainly looks new. No idea on make, I don't think it's genuine - but is very quiet and not "droney".

It runs absolutely lovely - there are no engine faults, and no codes stored.

Body wise, it's tidy for year. There is some surface rust starting to appear on the INSIDE of the arches at the rear, but this isn't visible when looking at the car, and could very easily be sorted. There are a few very small marks around the car, the worst being a bit of a scuff on the underside of the front bumper. There is also a bit of the black paint peeling off, on the sunroof surround. All easily sorted, and the car is overall very, very presentable.

The interior is also clean, and it hasn't been smoked in.

Unlike many cars on here - the history of this one can be traced right back via the forum, to when the car was almost new!

Nigel changed the oil etc, like clockwork, and having looked inside the engine, this is clearly evident.

As with any 99 model there will be a few small issues. They are:

* Front tyres are VERY slightly wearing on the inside edge over a long period of time. The car  does tramline slightly over some road surfaces. It's not usually noticable, but worthy of a mention for honesty sake. My belief is that this is the steering idler, of which an OEM part costs £30.

* The engine lower sump pan needs replacing due to a garage - shall we say - seeling the plug shut! This is a dead easy job, and a replacement included in the sale.

* The front vaccum tank for the multirams has failed, causing a slight drop of performance at higher revs. I have bought a NEW vacc tank, which is included in the sale, which you can easily fit. I thought at first it was kickdown, but this is actuating fine.

Basically - spend a saturday morning on these things, and it's tip-top!

I bought a 100 litre LPG tank for this car - however the back sits quite low, while it's in the boot. I did not get around to LPG'ing this car, and the tank IS NOT included in the sale, although if you want it, we can discuss. If you were to LPG it with a large tank, you would have to probably change rear springs for uprated models.

I have not taken any recent pictures, I soon will - but here are the pictures from Nigel when he advertised it on here:

On to the business - I paid £700 (With the full MOT) which was obviously a cracking price. I've spent about £600 on it - so the car owes me £1100.

The asking price is therefore £1100.

I believe this represents excellent value compared with other Omegas in the market at the moment. Please PM me with any queries or interest, I will happily answer anything, and viewings are welcome.

Please - seriously - can I request members keep any michael taking away from this particular thread. It's genuinely a sore point for me having to sell it, but current finances dictate I would be daft to keep 2 cars - hence consolidating my petrol VXs for a newer HDi.

I have seen this car, it's just as good as it looks in the photo's, and the engine was silky smooth and dead quiet. Good luck with the sale James  :y

You can understand why I bought it, as it's lovely... but it's impractical for me - I've really enjoyed the time I've had it though   :y

To be honest, I'm not getting rid due to running costs. It's actually respectable, even on petrol.

It's the lack of space to put Dogs, in the saloon  :(

When I was in Mrs Jones class in school, £700 and £600 was £1300.
Are you robbing yourself there young man?

Any decent car like this is worth making a journey to view and buy.

Distance is no object to a serious buyer, I drove 500 miles to view our first Omega, bought it on the spot and it served us faultlessly for 2 years (inc a trip to Poland) until we moved up to the MV6 we have now.....

Where is the effort in driving half a day to see and maybe buy the right car which will serve you well for years and years to come......

I drove a mere 125 miles each way to get my Peachy.
Alas, it was not what was advertised and I was seriously misled, or mis-sold, but put that down to me being NIEVE,  but all's well that ends well thanks to James and Autovaux, and here's hoping I really do have a PEACHY Omega.
BTW it is MOT day this friday. 9am. :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[ :-[
