3.0v6 much faster than the 2.5v6?
« on: 26 June 2007, 00:39:03 »

Hi , i got a 2.5 v6 at the moment , thinking of getting either a 3.0 or a 3.2 and converting it manual.

Is the 3.0 or the 3.2 MUCH faster than the 2.5? , or is it faster at top end but not at acceleration?

Does it have alot more noticable torque from low revs?

Matt

Hi I had an ex met 2.5v6 auto which was very quick but not enough toys so I got a 3ltr Elite auto without the sport button its fast use the sport button and kiss you license goodby it's very quick and very very easy to miss just how quick it goes as its smooth and just goes I did forget just once and the figure of 140mph was indicated on the speedo I have since then taken the lead out of my right foot
I cant comment on the manuals as age and a dodgy left knee means auto only I have tried the 3.2 but I found it slower mabye it was not a good one but that's my 2p worth

I think the autobox saps quite a bit of power, my manual seems pretty quick to me.  Certainly when I had a lead in the foot problem (not in this country I hasten to add) it easily cleared 135.

For what it is worth I think the manual box makes a real difference to fuel economy, I'd struggle to get mine below 30mpg

There is not a lot in it from an acceleration point of view due to the 2.5 having slightly lower gearing.

Just to note, this was taken in Germany on an unrestricted section of the Autobahn;

looking at the top left of the picture it seems like you had something in reserve before you hit the rev limiter.....  I wonder how much?

And yes, when I feel like getting my hands dirty I think 3.0 cams will go in

Personally I wouldn't have bought an Omega with anything less than a 3.0 manual, and even at that I don't find it all that quick, but then I like my cars to have a bit of grunt. Depends what you're used to really, I'm sure there are people out there who find a 2.0 8v auto Omega fast ;)

It all depends - I came from bikes!

However the auto 2.0 was my 3rd slowest accelerating car - slowest was the Sunbeam before the transplant, the 2.6 is second fastest not much behind the 3.0, 3rd was Sunbeam after I had finished it! (by 0.2 seconds)

Is it the same for a 2.6 and the 3.2 cams by the way? Hope so - would you need to do anything in addition to also?

Yes well even my 4.4 V8 840Ci feels slow after getting off the R1.... it has almost the BHP of a 2.6 Omega, while weighing only 170Kg :D. Although maybe not in the last week in the appalling weather, quite happy to be in the "slow" V8 car with the bike safely tucked away :)
