Irmscher Sportstars - Tyre sizes
« on: 01 September 2016, 17:38:53 »

Am I right in thinking the correct (or at least the standard size that most people stick to) tyre sizes for staggered 8J front, 9J rear 18" wheels on a -30mm lowered Omega chassis is 235/40/18 front and 245/40/18 rear?

That's what I have (although mine are both 8J IIRC)

I believe that go faster black one is on 245 front and 265 rear on 8J and 9J

That's correct re faster black one... My 8j18s had 245/40/18s fitted all round.

235/40/18s are an official alternative  :y

My wheels are 8.5 all round but use 235/40/18 on front and 265/35/18 on the rear to look a little fatter but tbh there's very little difference in them.

Particularly with some brands of 245, you need to you need to be careful of strut/wheelarch fouling.

Even those god awful GY F1 Assym 2 in 235 need a compromise on camber to fit without rubbing.

Sorry TB, but have to disagree there...

Mine had 245/40/18 GY F1 Assym 2 which didn't rub either on standard suspension or Irmscher lowered... neither did the various brands which replaced them... :-\ Always used XL tyres too...

In the interests of clarity, my Irmscher Stilas had an offset of ET33... Sportstars are either ET30 which shouldn't rub, or ET38 which could well rub with sidewall protection etc :-\

I thought side wall protection was only on the outside rim so shouldn't affect the suspension?

Depends if the tyres are directional/sided... and on the suspension components ;)

Though my point was, as I'm sure the OP wouldn't want GY F1 A2's anyway, different tyres can also affect the size that will fit nicely.

Current thought is Michelin Pilot Super Sports all round at the moment.
