General Car Chat / Mobile phone holders ......
« on: 23 November 2011, 14:37:10 »
Just wondering what the consensus was with regard to mobile phone holders in the car? Mine generally stays in my pocket, until it rings, or lies beside the handbrake. I did get an air vent style holder, very cheap, from the bay. Does a good job actually; quite sturdy and holds the phone well, but it means having to remove the case, which is a pain on short journeys. I'm not fussed on screen mounts, so was considering the likes of this as a possible option -

and then fitting one of the clamp style holders to it.
Anyone used these?

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / CCR2006 CD Player
« on: 11 November 2011, 17:32:34 »
Is it possible to replace the CD player alone? I have just got my new Omega, and having resolved the 'safe' issue, I will be keeping the unit, maybe! There does not appear to be any CD player at all. There is an opening / aperture and I can see a computer style 'ribbon' connector. I know there can be issues with the cartridges (I have no cartridge either) but I'm wondering can a replacement CD player be fitted, rather than change the whole unit?
Cheers in advance  :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Wind screen washer motor?
« on: 02 May 2010, 21:37:26 »
Washer jets not working. Knew the tank wasn't empty, so thought it may be a fuse. Then realised that the same fuse runs the wipers. Checked again while standing outside the car, and I can't hear the washer motor. Anyone any ideas? And can you point me in the direction of where the motor is, in case there's a loose connection or something! Thanks.

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / In car DVD ...?
« on: 28 April 2010, 23:23:30 »
Anyone got a single din dvd player with flip out screen in their pre facelift? Was just thinking about the option, but worried that it would cause too much of an obstruction to the dials, etc. There are some units with a built in screen (about 3" or so) but not sure they are worth the effort.  :-/

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / JVC in the meega
« on: 13 December 2006, 19:56:38 »
Fitted a JVC MP3 head unit in the Omega, to replace the ancient Aiwa player. The latter had to have the wires changed round to work properly with the Vx loom, but did not run the steering wheel controls or the display unit. I didn't mind this tho and didn't really miss it. The JVC plugged straight in and is working grand, but when its powered on the middle line of the dash display disappears ( where the date was and where the original Vx radio display would be ) and it does not retain the memory settings, so that each time you turn it on you have to program it again. Nothing major I know, but a little annoying nonetheless.
Would a harness adaptor, like the one for utilising the steering wheel controls, cure the memory problem as well as providing the remote control capability?
Any help much appreciated

Anyone fitted any extra sockets to their motor? I have no smokers in the family/car but the lighter sockets are used to power DVD players, gameboys and a coolbox when on holidays or trips. I thought extra sockets, rather than splitters, would be helpful. Do you think it is possible to fit them??

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / DCO12 changer
« on: 20 November 2006, 16:17:12 »
This type of changer was standard fitment I think, and plugs into a loom in the passenger footwell area, rather than into the head unit. Would this be right? If so, can any head unit with changer controls (and suitable adaptor if req'd for steering wheel controls etc) be used to run the changer??
Cheers

Omega General Help / Tailgate won't lock...
« on: 28 October 2010, 21:01:19 »
Just found out that the tailgate isn't locking with the remote. All the doors are locking / unlocking okay, and the dashboard button isn't showing any signs of a fault. I have already reset the remote, with no joy.  I would have thought the button would indicate any fault with the system, so guess it must be something else. There is little movement with the key in the tailgate lock (as it is never used) so will keep using the old WD40 to try and loosen it up a bit, as I would need to ba able to lock it. Any thoughts in the meantime?
Thanks

Omega General Help / ABS ECU part number?
« on: 05 May 2010, 08:59:26 »
Am requesting information from BBA-Reman re my faulty ECU. They are requesting the part number to assess their options. Is there a standard Vx part number for this item? Or is there a unique number for each individual unit? If the latter is the case, is there any way of getting the number without physically removing it?
Cheers

Omega General Help / ABS/TC lights ......
« on: 10 April 2010, 21:51:44 »
Driving home yesterday and these lights came on, and the speedo went off, for about five minutes. Same thing happened today. I know this is a sign that the ECU is starting to fail, but is it possible that it may simply be a sensor? Can these be checked, cleaned or replaced? Or would that be a waste of time, money and effort, and should I just resign myself to the inevitable?
Cheers.

Omega General Help / Anyone changed the handbrake cable?
« on: 11 March 2010, 21:32:13 »
Thanks to advice here (sjc  :y) I have established that the brake problem I was having is due to a seized cable.
Has anyone changed their cables and is it a difficult job?
Thanks

Omega General Help / Another handbrake question....sorry!
« on: 10 March 2010, 14:23:32 »
Have stripped down the brake assembly as per instructions following mot issue. Everything seems to be free enough but will reassemble and check. When I removed the star adjuster thing, it came apart in two halves - male and female if you like. The male section has a threaded end, but the female housing is hollow. Is there something missing? I have had a look round the work area but don't see anything. Seems strange that there is nothing to provide resistance for the male part.
Thanks.

Failed the MOT on poor passenger handbrake efficiency and am trying to sort it out. Can't get the disc hub off, and whilst continuing with 'rotate and tap' method, was considering that the shoes may need to be backed off as well. think I have located the star shape adjuster, but I can't adjust it. Firstly there does not seem to be too many 'teeth' in it to catch the screwdriver, and secondly I don't have a wide enough bladed driver. In the guide the screwdriver doesn't seem to be overly big for this task and I was wondering if I may be doing something wrong!? :'(
Any help much appreciated.
