Omega General Help / If it is the EM gasket.......
« on: 13 March 2007, 10:42:51 »
Had a look at the 'blue book of ?' and it would seem that really there is not much more stripping down to be down for the EM gasket, as for the cam cover gaskets, although it does seem a bit more fiddly.
Bit worried about a stud shearing off and wanted to ask if there were any preventative measures that could be taken to try and prevent this?
Also is it necessary to change every seal and gasket on the way? I don't mind but I can just picture the parts dept guy's face when I hit him with the list of parts!! ;D

Omega General Help / Rear check strap
« on: 02 March 2007, 17:43:59 »
Anyone had any trouble with the check strap on the rear doors? Having just done both front doors I hear a clunking sound as I open the rear passenger door, which sounds almost familiar!  :(
Externally the set up looks slightly different, so I thought I'd ask before I start taking panels off, etc.
Cheers  :y

Omega General Help / Price of camcover gaskets
« on: 22 January 2007, 19:13:02 »
A couple of members have been doing the dreaded gaskets recently. Can anyone give me a rough idea of the cost of all necessary items? I don't need the plenum 'o' rings as I've already changed them, but I'm just curious so I don't get ripped off!!

Cheers  :y

Omega General Help / Cam followers
« on: 07 December 2006, 21:24:30 »
In the near future (though probably after Christmas hangover ends) camcover gaskets are to be done, along with a few other bits and pieces.
Still haven't decided whether or not the tapping noise is followers or manifold gasket. As the noise doesn't stop after a while, I suspect it's not the gasket.
Can the followers be examined as such, to determine which is/are noisy/faulty or must they be replaced? Also is this something a novice can attempt, or better to try and find someone better equipped?

Omega General Help / Cruise part numbers
« on: 31 October 2006, 13:05:39 »
In view of comments on other threads, it may be better buying new components (or at least the stalk), but this will depend on price and availability obviously.
In order to help me, and the parts man, could anyone advise the part numbers I would require?
My car is prefacelift V6 so would require the stalk and control unit, etc.

Cheers in advance guys   [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Omega General Help / Throttle cable removal
« on: 07 October 2006, 12:04:14 »
Can't seem to find the circlip on the end of the throttle cable as described in the excellent how to, in relation to removing the plenum. There is nothing on the outside of the ball which clips to the throttle housing. Not sure whether or not I can gently force it off, or leave it attached and clean the breathers in situ, which I imagine would actually be more awkward. There are two very small holes on opposite sides of the ball, and I'm wondering if the circlip has actually been left off by someone the last time it was removed. If the two small holes represent the mounting points for the circlip, then I guess this is probably what has happened.
Any ideas or suggestions appreciated.

Omega General Help / Plenum removal
« on: 26 September 2006, 16:28:55 »
I know this is really bread and butter stuff for some, but I can't get the removal of the plenum right in my head (tho I am a bit nuts!  [smiley=tongue.gif])
Anyone fancy doing a quick 'how to'? There are some good guides here which start with the plenum removal but they seem to differ slightly. I'm intending to clean my breathers, and maybe at some point do the cam covers.
My motor is pre-facelift, V6.
Cheers

Omega General Help / Electric rear blind
« on: 17 August 2006, 02:14:04 »
I've always fancied one of these, but never actually seen one in the flesh, so to speak. Theres one on ebay at the minute which shows photos of the blind both raised and lowered. At the rear of my own parcel shelf is what looks like a long speaker grille, is this where the blind would fit? I have always thought i would need the complete shelf, and of course the switch, but if this is the case then it would make it an easier (and cheaper?) mod!
Any advice much appreciated.  [smiley=shocked.gif]

Omega General Help / Tools
« on: 14 July 2006, 21:05:26 »
My garage tool kit consists of mainly general and wood working tools which are obviously no good for the Meega. I would like to start gathering up some bits so that when I start into the work I should have all i need to hand.
I know that any list will not be definitive, but any advice on where to start, or what I should be buying would be appreciated.
Cheers.

Omega General Help / Are Elites lower?
« on: 20 July 2006, 22:08:56 »
Just a simple question really, and one which I'm sure will have a simple answer(would need to be simple for me to understand it!!)
Do Elite models have a lower ride height than more standard models? When I see one I always think it does, particularly pre-facelift, but sometimes feel the colour coded lower mouldings create such an 'illusion'. In that respect I suppose the MV6 might be the same.
What's the answer please?

All items from a 99 model. I had kept them for my next Omega, but that won't be happening for a while so thought I'd offer them up here.
All prices open to offers and subject to postage.

Cruise control module and stalk - £35
Grey boot carpet - think Elite Pete wants this
Grey spare wheel cover and securing strap - £12
Grey jack cover (no handle) and securing strap - £8
Autoleads adaptor and add-on to suit JVC - £15
Grey boot storage area cover with inner 'cradle' - £10
(I have a first aid box which fits this perfectly if interested?)
Steering column / ignition cover (with all fittings and height adjuster)- £5
Two rear door ashtrays and handle inserts - £5
Spare wheel 15" with excellent tyre (not budget) - £15

Any questions, please ask. All bits are self explanatory, but if pics are required re any please let me know.

Cheers

General Car Chat / BBA -reman
« on: 07 May 2010, 15:31:19 »
Just to let you know, in my saga re ABS ECU repair or replacement, the company above will test the unit for £35 plus vat and carriage, and will then repair for £100 plus vat and carriage (which includes the original test fee). This seems really good, though I don't know if it applies to all units as they requested the details from my ABS pump to ensure they could test it.

I know some of you have already used this service - any problems??

General Car Chat / ABS sensors
« on: 24 April 2010, 23:40:46 »
Whilst trying to decide about replacing the ECU (getting the funds together and finding suitable company), I thought I might have a look at the sensors. Has anyone actually tried this? And are the two rear sensors interchangeable (for the purpose of testing)?
Thanks

General Car Chat / ABS ECU ...recon vs 2nd hand?
« on: 23 April 2010, 22:21:25 »
General consensus would seem to be that checking/cleaning ABS sensors is probably a waste of time.
Options are then to either replace the ECU with a second hand item from a matching car, or to have the existing unit reconditioned.
Thoughts and advice requested please  :y

General Car Chat / Mind over matter?
« on: 23 April 2010, 17:22:08 »
An oil change one week, followed by a breather clean the following week, makes for a (seemingly) much smoother drive. As in the title I'm probably just imagining it, but it can't do any harm.
If I could only decide what to do about the ABS/TC issue, I would be really happy! :-/
