Cam cover gasket advice
« on: 02 October 2012, 14:55:01 »

Just fitting new gaskets, and it is in one piece. The two bits that join each side have no recess to fit into, causing them to stand proud of the cover.
I take it these have to be removed, so in effect there are two gaskets for each bank?
Cheers

done this job awhile back but ended up changing both cam boxes aswell as new gaskets as there was still a leak on the o/s bank , not a nice job .

I'm sure it wasn't. I haven't tested mine yet due to another fluid issue, but fingers crossed!  ::)

Sounds like you have the wrong part supplied. It should be a direct fit, no chopping required...

The correct parts fit like a glove and as long as you apply the black VX sealant to the half moons on all four of them, then torque the covers down to the correct torque they will not leak. The only reason they will is if the covers have been damaged previously by overtightening and they have become warped. Use a flat surface first to check they have level bottoms...discard the 8 old 'O' rings and clean out the grooves thoroughly.
Don't forget to replace the 8 'O' rings too!
A job done right will last........... :y

The gaskets are the same apart from the fact the later type come as a single gasket instead of two gaskets per head, you just have to remove the joining piece of rubber. Just saves a trip to the dealers to swap them
