Keyfob buttons not working :(
« on: 13 September 2020, 17:05:48 »

Hi all,

Visted my dad the yesterday and the keybob (all buttons) do not work on his 2.2 Petrol Auto (Y PLate) on one of his keys.

I put a new CR2032 battery in and still nothing.  All appeared OK inside.

I did recall that you had to turn ignition on and press and hold a button on the Fob ?  I tried that but still no banana  :(

Any thoughts.  Key starts car OK, just no buttons work.  The Spare key is all OK.

Thanks in advance.

Andy.

Key in, turn to pos 2, press and hold lock button until the door locks cycle, release button, ign off, remove key :-\

Did you pop the electronics out of the case to check?

If it definitely looks ok, then it's possible that it's failed or that it needs a Tech 2 session to reprogramme it officially.

It won't have any bearing on the car starting as that's governed by the chip, not the remote ;)

Does he still have the car pass? If yes, getting a replacement remote should be pretty straightforward...

Cheers.  I am pretty sure he has the Car Pass.  Has the original Grey folder and book so I think its in there.

I'll check next time I am there.

Where best place to get replacement and what is cost and what do I need ?

They were about £50 from Vx iirc. That's the best bet it will be ordered to the Car Pass.

You could buy a second hand one then have it coded to the car, but by the time you've factored all the messing around, you may as well get a new one that worksout of the box.

You'll need the car pass, id andproof of address to order it, and the car plus any spare keys when it gets programmed (this is to ensure that only the keys/remotes you have for the car are coded to it and makes life easier if there's a problem as all the keys can be checked before taking the car away :y

Did it work? If not, it could be wrong type (although looks the same). If it did, check the battery holder isn't loose (caused by one or both of the electrical connectors holding it to board being broken - easily done if ham fisted taking apart. Easy-ish repair if handy with a soldering iron.
