That about covers it.

Wifes Elite is complaining of low coolant from time to time, but there's plenty of fluid in there.

I suspect a faulty sensor unless anyone has a different idea.

Omega General Help / Spongy brakes.
« on: 19 July 2006, 16:46:29 »
Right guys, I'm really desperate!! (I know I posted this elsewhere, but I haven't fixed the problem yet.)

Sorry for the long post, but Iwanted to post as much info as poss'.

I have an 'L' plate 2.0 16vCD saloon that I intend to travel to Naples in at the end of September on the Staples2Naples banger rally. Anyway, enough about that.

Amongst the jobs that needed doing for MOT and otherwise, was a bright idea I had to 'upgrade' the front brakes to Senator 24v spec'. TBH, while the disks were slightly bigger, I doubt it'd have made much improvement, but the brakes that were on it were past their best anyway, so seeing as I had a brand new set of Senny calipers/rotors/pads lying in my garage, I thought it'd be a good idea to kill two birds with one stone.

Anyway, after replacing the brakes, the pedal was spongy. It would go so far down then sink another inch or so. My friendly local grease monkey tells me that they're not good enough for MOT.

So I set about trying to diagnose the problem and started by bleeding the brakes. I tried an ezibleed and when that didn't work I tried the conventional method and when that didn't work, I tried clamping the flexi hoses and doing each one individually and then I did it again with the engine running. That didn't work either.

So I tried changing the master cylinder then going through the rigmarole of bleeding the brakes again and there was still no change.

I then clamped the front brakes off and the pedal was as hard as a rock, so I deduced that the problem lay with the Senator brakes that I fitted. I surmised that the Omega master cylinder wasn't up to the job of operating the bigger Senator pistons. So I made the executive decision to buy new rotors and pads and give the old calipers a bit of a service and that should rectify the problem.

So I did that last night. Nice new set of rotors and pads and I ensured the calipers were moving freely.

I thought it was slightly better, but grease monkey says they're still substandard!!

So I'm stuck and in a hurry to fix it.

Help!!

S2N is only eight weeks away and I want to use the car to prove it's at least a bit reliable!!

Thought I'd put a couple of pic's up.

Sadly Mother's away at the moment, so don't have any pics of her, but I'll put some up later.

Anyway, Here's Daddy!  8-)

Daddy's nerve centre!

I love those seats!!

Here's the upstart that's (supposed to be) going to Naples in September, but the brakes are driving me nuts!!!!

Note the exquisite peeling laquer and the bohemian use of Senator alloys on the front!!

And the luxurious interior!

Pay particular attention to the lack of passenger door paneling, the calibrated speedo and the interestingly arranged switchgear in place of an ignition switch. Will it get to Naples???

Here's Mommy!!

2.5 V6 Elite. I'm jealous of the electric memory seats, self dipping mirror and sunroof!!  :o

And one final family portrait......although junior's gotten a little bashfull!!!!

There appears to be a fair number of Scottish Omega enthusiasts.

Anyone fancy getting together?

We could tie up with the Scottish ABS/TotalCarlton contingient. They're always up for a meet. In fact, there's moves to have a Jock ABS meet in the foreseeable.

What say you?

All who are interested say 'AYE!' to guage the numbers of interested paries.

General Discussion Area / I'm in mourning!
« on: 29 May 2007, 01:45:35 »
I don't know if it's just the beer talking, (and believe me I've had a few!!), but, I am absoloutely gutted that I've had to say goodbye, (Au Revoir), to my MV6.

I find it absolutely abhorent that I should be so attached too something that amounts to no more than a 'machine', but I'm finding my recent parting very difficult to deal with.

With no exception, the car I recently parted with, was the asolute epitomy of me.

Fast, comfortable, easy, (drinks a lot!),  and aesthetically pleasing, (I wish!). What more can I say?

Is this unhealthy?

<I'm wearing a black arm band.>

Something I noticed on my travels over the weekend..........

On my way south, I didn't see one other Omega till I got to Bob's place.

On the way back yesterday, I spotted dozens of them, including a car transporter full of the things heading south.

Tell you what though, Nott's is definitely the 'Meegs capital. Saw loads around there yesterday particularly at Donnington Park services.

General Discussion Area / What to ask for SWMBO's Elite?
« on: 14 May 2007, 13:26:40 »
Probably soon to be for sale is my wifes 'V' plate pre-facelift 2.5 V6 Elite and I want an idea what I should ask for it to sell privately or on trade-in.

It's got 144k with extensive history, cloth interior, AC and Bose sound, (with carphone but not satnav). Everything on it works.

Good overall condition but could use a clean.

What do you think?

As I've mentioned before, having been hurled around Knockhill in the BatOmegaBile a couple of times, I was bitten a bit and really fancied a go myself.

Although I really had something of a RWD disposition and around 200 BHP in mind, as luck would have it, my mate decided to sell his MOT failure Calibra. It has lowered suspension, big wheels and is generally very tidy, but he didn't have the time or funds to repair it, so I bought it with a view to stripping it out and giving it a good ol' hiding and who knows, maybe introduce some more pistons and some drive to the rear wheels at some point in the future.

FFWD two weeks and and MonzaIain decided to sell one of his cars for much cheapness, but I couldn't justify the outlay at the time.We struck a deal later however and I'm the proud owner of a Monza GSE that I still have to collect. (Working on it Iain, sorry for the delay!!).

Since then, and I think I've relayed the story to you I discovered that there was a slightly fire damaged ex-works Monza for sale including lots of spares such as a Bill Blydenstein head, foam filled petrol tank, fully caged with a 250(ish) BHP Swindon Engineering engine in it. So I went to see it on Sunday. Did I say it was slightly singed?  :o

Let me say, that it's not beyond repair, but it'd be a gargantuan task to make it functional again.

Shame really, I'd managed to talk myself into taking it, but as I already have two wrecks coming to me I couldn't justify having them all lying around the homestead. Plus, I want some track day action sooner rather than later and as this would mean a complete stripdown, I feel it's a bit more than I can chew at the moment.

I'm going to see if the bloke will sell me some stuff off it for my other Monza though.

It wasn't just the Monza that got it either, to the left in one of the pics is an Alfa 75 in full rally spec. Apparently the gearbox in it alone is worth about £6k. I really feel bad for the guy!!

This time however the BiB's got the little scrote and he's awaiting sentencing.

Nope, sorry guys, not a car.

SWMBO and I were quite busy on Monday night and Tuesday morning. Here's the product................. (Oh, I've already sorted the date on my camera!!)

Her name's Layla Farr Black. She was born at home at 0350 on Tuesday morning after a 24hr labour!!   :o  After the birth all the fingers and thumbs were counted and verified.

The ruffian with the red and black jumper is her big brother Jude.

It's been emotional and I've spent the last two days resisting the urge to bawl my eyes out!!  :-[   (This parenting lark turns you into a big ball of jely I tell you!!)

General Discussion Area / Ramps.........
« on: 15 March 2007, 12:00:45 »
Ain't it typical!?!?! I've been looking for a towing dolly for ages. I'd prefer a transporter, but a dolly's better for storage purposes you know. Anyway, I bought this transporter at a bargain price this morning but it came without ramps, so went on t'internet to look for some and wouldn't you know it?!?!? There's a towing dolly for sale not 20 miles away with a winch and ramps and everything!!

Anyway, I've now got myself a car transporter trailer!! (Yippee!!)   :y

Trouble is, as I said, it didn't come with any ramps. (Boo!!)   :-?

Anyone got, or know of any for sale?

Oh well, now I just need to find somewhere to keep the trailer as it doesn't fit up my driveway!!   ::)
