General Discussion Area / Tuning 2.0 8v.
« on: 02 March 2007, 09:16:33 »
I've just bought a 2.0 Calibra for thrashing round Knockhill of a Sunday. Just trying to drop myself in gradually.

Anyone got any ideas on tuning one up?

I have more ambitious plans, but they're for another discussion.

TIA!

General Discussion Area / I'm completely lost for words!!!

Let me paint the picture…………(Sorry it's a bit of a yarn.)

While driving home from work last Tuesday night, I had a slight altercation with an artic' whose driver thought my car would look better without a drivers side mirror.

Whilst I thought it unnecessary, the lorry driver insisted on Police presence. Once they arrived I was invited into his 'office' to have my particulars taken. Whilst I was in the car I notice he had one of those ANPR systems on board, (You know the ones that check with the DVLA for tax disk evasion and in particular in this case, valid insurance.). Now, while I suppose I really should, I'm not in the habit of carrying my insurance certificate with me, so the Policeman issued me with a HO/RT 1 'producer' form and told me to produce my insurance certificate within seven days at a Police station of my choice. When I asked him why he didn't just check his gadget, he spouted something about data protection which I took with a pinch of salt, but I was in no position to argue. Once my 'interview was complete, I went on my merry way resisting the urge to gesticulate offensively to the driver of the lorry.

Fast forward to this morning and it dawned on me that my seven days were up!! (Oooops!!). So as I didn't have to be at work until lunchtime today I reckoned I could nip up to the local Cop Shop with my document(s). Sadly I couldn't find my insurance certificate so I ordered a copy from my insurance company then called the Central Scotland Traffic Police HQ to explain the situation and hopefully gain a couple of days extension. To cut a long story short, they said I had to report to my local nick which I duly did.

So I explained my case to the PO behind the desk to which she said that they'd have to officially charge me with 'failure to produce required documentation'.

Once I'd managed to pick my jaw up from the floor I'm ushered into a little interview room where I sat with two Sergeants for a frickin' hour while they took a statement from me and read me my rights!! A report is being sent to the Procurator Fiscal! (Scottish CPS.)

It took all the willpower I had not to kill myself laughing at the sheer absurdity of it all, ask them if they were joking and look for the Candid Cameras!

To give them their due, the officers I spoke with agreed that it was a pointless exercise.

What a waste of three peoples time and tax payers money!!

So I guess I'm now a bona fide criminal!!!

I'm just glad I didn't get chucked in the cells with a big bloke called Bubba who was looking for new fiancé.

General Discussion Area / How much for..........

..........a new offside door mirror?

Some redneck dipsh1t artic driver smacked mine tonight driving home. Without going into too much detail it'll be hard to prove that it was his fault as it's his word against mine. To cut a long story short he was in the process of changing lanes and the front offside of his cab hit the mirror. Very slow queueing traffic, but the eejit decided he wanted to barge in.

Anyway, it probably won't be worth my while claiming of my insurance really, so how much do you think I should expect to pay for a replacement?

how much cr@p I hoard!!!

AS you might've read, I launched a perfectly good Senator A/C pump at the weekend during a garage clearout.

It took four Omega estate loads, (and I mean full to the gunnels!!!) and a pick up truck load to the municipal tip!!

And it was all stuff that I thought 'might' be useful one day!!

And to boot, the garage is still full, although there is space to put car(s) in now. Makes me wanna go buy one to put in it!!  ;D

General Discussion Area / Someone put my mind at rest please!!
« on: 27 January 2007, 19:55:37 »
In anticipation of work starting on my house on Monday, I thought that it was high time to sort the wheat from the chaf WRT the contents of my garage..............

I have to admit I hoard a lot of sh1t!!  ::)

Anyways, I was being brutal about what should stay and what should go. I slung a good working, (when it was removed.), A/C pump from a Senator. Shame, but I wasn't likely to use it.

So I jumps in SWMBO's Elite and there's a hideous rumbling noise from under the bonnet. So I switched the A/C off and the noise disappeared. So I figured A/C pump!!  :o

Someone please tell me that the pumps are different and I've not thrown away a useable part!!!! Please please please!!

(Oh and I'll probably be after a replacement pump in future if anyone's got a known good one kicking about!!)

I'm a bit embarased by this, but thought I'd share it with you.

To try to cut a long story short, I was in a retail park near Dunfermline town, (notice I called it a town! the local press would like you to believe it's a city...................... It's not!!), centre.

I needed to get my car close to the outlet to load some packs of laminate flooring in the back, so I ordered the stuff and went to get my car so's it would be closer to, (right outside!), the shop.

So I drives the car down there and the space I wanted was perpendicular to the shop front, (awkwar to park in!), so I drove the long way round to get the best angle to enter the spot.

As I approached the space another car came from the other direction, so I hung back to let him pass.

The driver seemed to be bemused as to my actions even though I'd left him plenty of room to round the corner and so he starts to motion, (or so I thought!), that I'd not left him enough space to execute his manouver.

So I got on my high horse and gesticulated my reservations that he was a muppet and shouldn't be allowed behind the wheel of a car.

I reversed and let him through, but was incensed at his actions so reversed further and wound my window down to find out exactly why he was, (in my mind.), being such an 'idiot'.

I asked him what the problem was, and to his credit, he calmly pointed out that it was in fact a one way system and I was driving the wrong way!  :-[

I was absolutely horrified that I was such a moron! and apologised unreservedly.

Again to his credit the bloke said it was an easy mistake to make and told me it wasn't a big problem.

Big up to the bloke!! (Lot's of other f**kwits would've made a big deal of it!)

He'll never see this, but I am everso sorry!!!

(He was driving a Mundaneo tho' so I have some salvation I think!!  :-[ )

Well, given that my Meega has a bodykit, wide wheels and tinted windows, this may seem as a little hypocritical, but I really had thought that Meega's were by and large exempt from this sort of treatment.

Scraped from a search for 'Omega' from www.barryboys.co.uk . Made me giggle somewhat. Although, I have to admit to actually quite liking the estate with the flames on it!!  :-[

Apologies if you've seen 'em before and for the long post......................Or indeed if it causes offense!!!

That should keep you amused for a while!

General Discussion Area / How rare are 3.2's?
« on: 15 December 2006, 13:40:23 »
Reason I'm asking is that I recently had my MV6 in at the local garage to have the rear brakes and front wishbones replaced, (Yeah, I know I'm hanging my head in shame, but I just don't have the time to do it myself!).

Anyway, when the guy returned my car, he said that the factors he uses said it couldn't possibly be a 3.2 'cos there's hardly any about! (He was proved wrong obviously once he'd looked up the VIN code!!)

So how about it, how rare actually are they?

What a hoot!!

Got a phonecall from the guy I gave the Batmobile to saying he was going to Knockhill again on Sunday.

To cut a long story short, I went up and got hurled round the track in it!! (Spent most of the time looking out the side windows even when we were on a straight bit of road 'cos the track was so slippy!!)

The high point was when he got in a 'tankslapper' coming out of the chicane off camber, lost it totally then pirouetted off the track into a gravel trap only to end up facing the wrong direction!!!  :o

Tell you what, I'm well proud of that old shed!!! It keeps up with Nissan 200 turbo's!! (But then the driver wasn't trying I don't think!!)

Now where do I get a cheap ex-plod manual MV6?   :y

Sorry to harp on about it, but here's a little video I nailed together of the trip.

I apologise for the more ropey bits as it's my first attempt at such a thing.

It's about 8 minutes long, so stick with it as there's some fun bit's involving water pistols towards the end.

Off topic, but can you help?

I have a Sony Handicam and want to 'extract' some stills from the footage.

I need them to be about 800x600, but the I can't find any way to re-size the picture with Imagemixer stuff app I use, (I got it with the camera). the pics that come off are more like 300x250.

Any tips?

TIA!

« on: 05 October 2006, 14:17:21 »
I'm going to be in Nottingham on Tuesday the 10th Oct' for an overnight.

As Nottingham appears to be the Omega capital of the UK, I thought I'd put a shout out.

I'll be staying at the Rutland Square Hotel near the castle if anyone's interested in blowing the froth off a few steins!!

Should be in the bar from around 8-ish. Sorry, I can't leave the hotel as I'll be 'on-call' and may need their wireless broadband service.

Any takers?

Batman here!

We gave the Batmobile to another team on Tuesday morning and they're off up to the Nurburgring. *Jealous*

Spent yesterday in a convoy of four, (Back to the Future Scirroco, Milky Bar Carlton, Safari Volvo and us in a Rover with a Union flag apinted over it and a set of dixie airhorns with me driving.), getting lost, narrowly avoiding locals and ragging around Naples trying to find Pompeii. Found it eventually, had a wander round, had something to eat then barreled up the A1 to Ciampino where we flew from this morning.

Robin's gone home to Scotland on a connecting flight from Luton, I'm at Scoob's house in Henley washing some clothes to use in a meeting tomorrow in Northampton.

The weekend is but a blur, but suffice it to say the whole experience blew my socks off.

Pic's and blow by blow account to come when the dust settles.
