Wheel squeak
« on: 20 May 2007, 22:01:08 »

The barge has developed an annoying squeak when I go round corners. It seems (but not 100%) to be coming from the rear. Doesn't do it all the time, but often enough to give me some concern. Could it be a binding brake pad/shoe? Why does it only squeak when going round corners (or maybe I should say when straightening up after going round a corner).

I know my NSF wishbone is goosed (got a new pair ready to put on). Could that be causing the sound, i.e metal to metal where the bush has worn?

Here's a couple of options?

....rear wheel bearing gone?

....tyre fouling the wheel arch or shocks?

Mmm, thanks for that.

I'm thinking rear wheel bearing. Is it a pig of a job?  :-/

Mine occasionally does something similar. I know my handbrake sometimes squeaks a bit so I suspect the handbrake mechanism inside the disc at the back.

Only problem is I can't get my rear discs off....

I did the front ones, and they were quite straightforward (apart from the fact that you need heafty tools due to the Torque settings). Not sure about the rear...

I had this on my Omega. In my case it was the handbrake shoes rubbing against a build-up of corrosion on the drum. Don't know why going around corners seemed to set it off squeaking. Take it all apart using the maintenance guide on this site. Clean up the corrosion on the drums and reassemble. I found this to be a pig of a job but then I am not an experienced mechanic and finally managed to do it. Good luck. :y
