Knowing i have a hole in my back box (twin exit pipe) and my mot is due soon... thought i would take it for a free exhaust check at KWik fit today...

Told him to check the whole exhaust and tell me what needs replacing.

He confirmed the back box has a hole....

His quote (for single exit pipe) £92

HOWEVER... he said that it might be difficult or impossible to split it from the next sections so if they need replacing then that will bump the price up to £250 !

Two questions...

1) is he talking bullshit about splitting the sections?
2) for some reason my 2.5v6 Elite has the twin exit exhaust, a pattern exhaust(yes i know they are not brilliant but i am skint) is £33 but its £60+ for the twin exit!  will there be any performance loss by me going for the single exit back box??

This is odd.. I always knew that only 3.0/3.2 had twin pipes as standard. In fact you could tell a 2.5 Elite from a 3.0 Elite by the tailpipe(s)... are you sure yours is original Vx? maybe it was replaced by previous owner? At any rate apart from the visual affect I see no advantage in fitting twin pipe exhaust on a 2.5/2.6... and the elite engines we the same as the GLS/CD/CDX, so I can't see why they would have a different exhaust.

Yes, I guess it has had a 3.0 tailpipe fitted by a previous owner. if there will be no power loss I will probably go for the single tailpipe to save money...

Anyone know the cheapest online place?

These eBay ones are £38.50 inc. P&P (same price for 2.5 & 3.0), however I cannot vouch for quality....

See if yu can get one with a trade card cos make no mistake if yu keeping car yull regret it if yu put a patten one on they are 71 on tc bite the bullet an get a vx one

So if I could clarify??..is it ok to put a 3.0/3.2 twin exit tail pipe on a 2.5/2.6...mine is on its way out and it is a single exit..so a I was thinking about a twin exit..any idea how much genuine GM would be ?against the cost of a single exit...might be a good time to get a TC as previous posts?

I just (like last week) put a double exit on the back of my 2.5 - £99+vat for gen GM with trade card.  Looks nice though but probably makes bu@@er all difference to anything measurable ;-)

Oh and forgot to say, Ive got a single exit backbox (usable but old) which you can have very cheaply if you want - see my posting in parts for sale. Whether its worth a trip to plymouth though...

Did yu fit it is it it noisy as im only keeping my cdx for anothr year then getting rid so not going to buy genuine if these arnt too bad

The exhaust has just been despatched so should be here in a few days...

local garage said about £25 to fit it (hoping it comes off easy - and does'nt require the centre sections)

I will let you know about the noise...
