Alarm sounding.
« on: 13 December 2007, 16:49:20 »

Hi all,
Last night while having dinner my Alarm stated sounding, well just the horn not the power sounder. It was a constant sound not a beep beep type.
I disconnected the Battery for the night to shut it up and had a look at it today in the light.
I reconnected the battery and it resumed sounding. So i disconnected it and the power sounder, then reconnected them again.
All seemed fine went out and returned to the Car and the horn was going off again so I've disconnected it.
Any ideas?
Background info:
N reg 2.0 Omega CDX
Battery is new and good, and charging well.
Car had not been used for about 1 week before trouble.
It was very cold last night.
Thanks in advance
Jim

bonnet sensor?
This happened to my 2000 facelift, instead of disconnecting the battery every night what I did was open the rear door drivers side and lock the driver door, this locked the car but didn't arm the alarm.
As will said it is probably one of the sensors.
hope this helps ;)
The only problem with not arming the alarm though is insurance,so only use this as a short term thing 'til you can sort it. :y

This happened to me last night, but mines an x reg. I had to leave mine unlocked with my van blocking it in on the drive.

Will look at the bonnet sensor tonight.

So, how do we go about proving or disproving the bonnet sensor then?

Disconnect the bonnet sensor and see if the alarm still sounds :y

Standing at the front of the car looking under ther bonnet it's on your right hand side towards the back, fastened to the power steering pump reservoir.

Hi, ok found sensor. :y looking at it all seemed ok but noticed that where the switch is activated by the bonnet there seems to be a, what i can best describe as, recess in the bonnet cover. it looked like when the bonnet is closed the switch may not be fully made. i could be wrong but is there supposed to be a pad or something in the recess?

I don't believe there's a pad normally. However, you might want to try a felt pad of the type used to stick onto the bottom of furniture legs.

Unplug the sensor first, though, to prove it is the cause of your problems.

The bonnet switch can be removed and disassembled for cleaning easily, too.
