A recent problem has occured with the alarm on my 98 Omega. The alarm siren goes off every time i turn on the ignition but stops once the engine starts. Occasionally it has also sounded whilst driving, without warning. I have had it in to the dealers and they have tested it out. The report gives the faults as 51 EEPROM FAILURE & 125 HORN OPEN CIRCUIT. Which, according to them, means the ECU needs replacing for which they have quoted £300 fitted. A lot to spend on a car of this age. Does this sound right, or is there any way the alarm, or the siren be disabled.

      hi there
  you could unplug the wiring from under the bonnet
 on passenger side just under windscreen that should work

 or before you get out the car press the button just above the
 stereo  (looks like a man running away) then get out and lock it up.

  i would look at the sensor under the bonnet as it might be bent

they dont seem like the usual symptoms of a bonnet sensor problem..

Thanks for replies. Can the car be locked without the alrm being armed? Is the Siren easy to access, and if so how do I get to it?

My Alarm Was getting on my nervous and i was locking my car by opening the rear passanger door sticking my hand through and pushing down the drivers lock thingy.

Stopped my Alarm going off by unpluging the black power sounder under the scuttle on the drivers side

Sounds to me like the power sounder might be waking up when the ignition is turned on and realising its' battery is shot. I agree with the "disconnecting it" course of action.
