Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Not enough room
« on: 25 February 2008, 12:26:17 »

Hello folks,

I have recently purchased a head unit and have everything wired up. However, there is no where near enough room for me to slot the unit back into the dash due to the amount of wires at the back the radio.

Is there anything that can be chopped out from behind the fascia? I have had to walk away from the car after an hour struggling to slide the thing in before the head unit and the dash became cannon fodder for my frustration.

Cheers all,

Sipey - Grumpy and irritated :(

Omega General Help / Where's this from
« on: 01 July 2008, 10:47:42 »
Morning all,

Whilst driving home after dropping the kiddies off to school this morning there was a really strong smell of petrol. When I parked up I lifted the bonnet and looked underneath the car which is when I happened upon this

Now, I guess the bearing and the smell of petrol are unrelated but can anyone tell me where this could be from?

Many thanks,

Mark

Omega General Help / Wheel movement
« on: 07 May 2008, 11:16:14 »
Hi All,

Had to change a tyre yesterday and noticed significant movement in the front nearside wheel. This was horizontal movement as opposed to vertical movement. Searching through the forum suggested various could be's, most likely being a steering idler. Before I go and get the part, thought I would check with you first  :)

Many thanks,

Mark

Omega General Help / Vacuum pipe on top of HBV
« on: 09 April 2008, 13:52:41 »
Hi All,

Just poking around under the bonnet and notice that the vacuum pipe that comes out of the top of the HBV is not plugged in anywhere. Could someone please tell me where it is supposed to connect to

Many thanks,

Mark

Omega General Help / Erratic Temp Gauge
« on: 12 February 2008, 23:14:51 »
Hi all,

Today was the first day I have had to sit in traffic since I got the car. During my 20 minute crawl the temperature gauge was acting most peculiarly.

After about 10 minutes the gauge was reading 1 line under the red. Oh bugger me thinks. Turned off and checked everything. Engine was warm but not over heating, no excess pressure detected anywhere, no leaks, no bad smells etc.

After about 20 minutes I started her back up. Gauge was at 92. It was getting dark so I put my lights on. The gauge climbed. Turned lights off and the gauge stopped climbing. Turned lights back on and the gauge climbed again.

Was going to turn her off again but the traffic started moving so I decided to crawl on. As I started to move, the gauge started to fall slowly and went back to 92. Then the traffic stopped again. As I was stationery the gauge started its upward creep again.

Out of idle curiosity I shifted the car into neutral and applied the hand bake. I revved the car to about 2,000rpm and the needle fell back again. After about 20 seconds the gauge rested back at 92.

Now, after getting home and leaving the car for a few hours I have gone to check her over. Though the water is pretty murky she hasn't lost any. There are no puddles under my car and she starts and drives fine.

Sorry for the long post but what do you good folks think. Dodgy temp gauge, thermostat, fans, or something more sinister?

Cheers all,

Sipey

Newbie Welcome Area / Hello
« on: 05 February 2008, 12:55:56 »
Hi All,

Joined the forum yesterday as I am in the market for an Omega and owners clubs are usually the best place to get friendly advice.

Let me start with a brief introduction.

My name is Mark, 29 and live in Berkshire with my lovely fiancee and two ankle biters.  Having just sold my Monaro I was intending to buy a cheap run around but can't bring myself to buy a 1.6 Asrta/Vectra or such like.

What I would like is an Omega 3.0 Elite, Auto box and leather. I have seen a few advertised and a couple with Irmscher kits. What is the going price of these? Also, what needs to be paid special attention to when I go to look at one?

Jim - I especially like your car. What would a late 90's model with 100,000+ miles set me back?

Look forward to speaking to many of you in the coming months.

Cheers,

Mark

Omega Gallery / New Radio
« on: 28 February 2008, 14:27:56 »
Well, after a week of frustration, here are a couple of pictures of the new radio taken from my phone.

First of all, a slight modification to the facia

Here is the fitted radio - please excuse the dusty dash - haven't hoovered the sawdust up fully

I will post some more pics of the unit running but right now I am chuffed as chips.

Cheers,

Mark

Omega Gallery / Hard Day
« on: 22 June 2008, 23:22:57 »
Someone put a dirty great scratch in my door >:( so have spent the day wet sanding, claying, washing, waxing and polishing the Miggy.

Started at 10:00 this morning and finished just in time to eat me dinner while watching Top Gear.

Now, I never took a before shot of the scratch as my camera was on charge, but it was about 10 inches long and had gone through the lacquer and into the paint. This is what it looks like now

Omega Gallery / Piccies
« on: 05 March 2008, 23:44:05 »
Hello folks,

As it was a nice day today I thought I would wash the old girl and post some piccies as I promised a couple of weeks ago. Here goes:

Very pleased with her so far. Booking her in to Long life to get a twin exit exhaust. I was thinking of a 4x6 oval each side. Then tinting the windows. Also, if anyone knows where I can get a pair of MV6 front leather seats, please let me know.

Cheers for looking all.

Evening all,

Please could you tell me how to remove a security wheel nut that has had the teeth burred so the key no longer fits. I have been trying in vain for the past 2 hours.

I have soaked it in penetrating fluid, hit it, rocked it, heated and drilled it (now I have no drill bits left). Is there a tool for removing them?????

Cheers folks,

Mark

Hi All,

My little bruvver's gearbox has gone bang on his Calibra. Does anyone have or know of an F20 going dirt cheap. There is one on Fleabay but it is in Devon - which is a bit too far from Maidenhead

Cheers all,

Mark
