Omega General Help / Re: DIS Pack
« on: 10 August 2006, 08:44:16 »
Yeah, I guess it would be the same.

It comes from watching too many shows like overhaulin and american hot-rod.

HAving worked a web developer for years now, I spell things Color, And Center, and Catalog that way, and still find it weird to spell them the other way, I just instinctivley type them that way.

Omega General Help / DIS Pack
« on: 09 August 2006, 23:15:14 »
Some of the older members may remember a thread started by Ronnie in a place where we found our roots, about removing the breather box.

He stated that Vx should of put razor blades and barbed wire around it, for there being a chance of someone actually being able to remove it.

Well, after struggling for about 40 mins today, I managed to get two out of four bolts out (Thanks to LB for the tool loan  [smiley=tekst-toppie.gif])

Had to stop as typical british weather, it started to rain. Figured that installing a DIS pack in the rain wasnt such a hot idea.

Will keep you posted on how I do this in the morning.

But so far, it goes like this:

- Remove the wipers; There are two plastic caps (or there should be) covering the 13mm retaining bolts, pop these off, and then undo the bolts, they shouldn't be very tight. With the bolts out, then push down gently on the hinge in the wiper arm, and then whilst pushing down, lift the wipers from the shaft

- Remove the scuttle; Pull the scuttle rubber trim, then undo the T25 bolt holding the scuttle to the offside wing. Then undo the (I think there are) seven plastic clips under the lower windsheild rubber. These are Torx head, but they have a slot for a flat screwdriver in. Pull the peice covering the pollen filter first, then the main bit.

- Remove the plug leads from the DIS pack, and pull them up out of the way. I placed mine on top of the cam covers. Out of the way.

- Remove the wiring plug for the DIS pack.

- Depending on the year of your car (or engine) the DIS pack will either be mounted horizontally or vertically. Mine is horizontal.

- Undo the two bolts on the left hand side (viewed from front) of the DIS pack. access is tight, I found that I had to push the HBV out of the way slightly.

Thats as far as I got, so will update a bit more when I done tomorrow.

Hopefully, it will be easier to get the new one on.

Omega General Help / Re: Oily Plugs, Rocker Cover Gaskets
« on: 16 August 2006, 22:06:50 »
After watching my Rocker being done by Mark, It really isn't that difficult, was a little daunted by it as I have seen the photos, but it looked simple enough.

It all just nuts and bolts at the end of the day.

The issue with the gasket sounded just like an exhaust blow.

A cracked manifold or a manifold gasket will sound like a tapping on the V6's.

Just get under the car with the engine running and feel up aound the downpipe's to check if you can feel it blowing.

Do it with the car cold though, as you will touch the exhaust doing this, and they get hot enough to melt human bone!

James,

What we all thought to be the manfold/manifold gasket, turnde out to be nothing more than a Manofold to Downpipe gasket.

So change the gasket, and all quiet.

Done for about £13 using Vx parts.

The thing that concerns me is that it is happening everytime now. It is obviously not going to make things better!

My g/f's sister came round one day, and the ramp actually removed the exhaust, from the downpipe backward.

We just heard a bang, and a very throaty growl. Looked out of thwe window and saw her looking bemused with the whole system on the ground.

Cant wait for that to happen to the V6  :-/

its all part of a claim that I have putting against the developers, as it is there road surface that is damaging the system. So hopefully, It isn't me that has to pay it.

And I certainly do not want an aftermarket system (although I belive it to have one on at the moment).

I knew it would be pricey, but that was a shock.

That is both downpipes, both cats, both center silencers, both rear sectionsm, but no back box.

Problem is that they have been grounded so many times, that it not going to be long before it all falls apart.

Right....

I have found out that the Bose system uses the standard Door speakers.

So, I need:

1x Bose Amp
1x Bose amp tray
1x Bose wiring loom
2x Rear shelf speakers
2x Rear shelf speaker grilles
2x Rear shelf speaker gauds (for underneath the shelf)

Bit of a list, and a lot of work.

Should hopefully be worth it though.

Maybe a How2......

I dont usually give up, provided I can get the bits and the info I need, I will get this working.

Just need some help with the information about the system.

I allready have an MP3 headunit, andf from what I can see, the BOSE amp uses a line level out from the Headunit. My Head unit has a line level out.

I know that there is a lot to change, but I have a small baby, so have a large pram in teh boot most of the time. And despite the boot being the size of a small nation, it is still full, thus leaving me no room for a sub. Hence why I sold it.

So am looking at the Bose setup, to give a bit more to the sound, and keeping things standard.

One other question; Are the door speakers different in the Bose setup, or are they the same as the standard ones. If they are different, does anyone know what rating the uprated ones are, as it may be easier to source an aftermarket alternative.
