Mobile Phone Reception
« on: 28 March 2021, 09:56:45 »

I have 3 mobile numbers Three/O2/Plusnet

I live band in the centre where 3 masts triangulate but yet need a booster to make calls with Three. :-\

I tried vodaphone, that wouldnt even dial out.  but upstairs would work fine. :-X

I can drive from village to village and do the Okla speed test (Basic I know) and get less than 1Mb/s in one village and 70 plus is the next, try annother mobile vice versa on the speeds.

Try logging into my bank only 1 of any of the 3 will work to gain access depending on location. :-\

When 4g then 5g came available I seemed to notice that reception weaked and call qualiitys wavered.  Maybe its me, just seemed they turned the transmitting power down to benifit the newer standards each time

I've been with 3 for years after switching from Vodafone after getting fed up with their patchy coverage.  ::)

It's pretty good round here, but still a few spots in deepest darkest Debben where there's no signal.  :-\

I have been with Vodafone since 1990, and certainly in recent times at least have no problem with reception.

But, I am in a very busy part of Kent although wherever I go around and about the reception is always good.  At home I am blessed with not only a 4G mast, but also a 5G one within sight of my front room. :D ;)

Change networks to one that works.  There is a reason Three is cheap, and thats that its universally shite.

Most (decent, non MVNO) providers will give you a femtocell for use at home, using your home broadband.

With regards to signal strength reducing over time, this is normal behaviour, as the cell tower will reduce its footprint as it gets busier, and grow it when it gets quieter.  This is to encourage mobile devices to shift to an adjacent cell if the cell is busy.  This is called breathing.

I'm not familiar with that but my lad lives in Brill and was on O2 but got no signal at home. He kept badgering them but O2 would only help him with a booster if he was a business customer.
He switched to EE, as EE gave him a signal booster ( Brill may as well be on the moon when it comes to mobile signal  ::) ), he gets discount through work (EE tower within the factory grounds), he gets a good signal and about a zillion GB of data more than O2 were offering.

Mobile Network 3 is good if you live in certain parts of Cornwall.  :y

Ah, but Brill used to get stinking Ragerpager coverage, seeing as the transmitter for Oxfordshire, Bucks and South Warkwickshire was up there ;D

To get the femtocells usually requires some effort to get through to the right people, and it as coverage (allegedly) improves, they are less and less keen.
