The thrust of it....

Two young  crims with a police record as long as your arm decide to  rob a house.

The homeowner chases after them in his car and knocks them off their stolen Yamaha.

The end result.....

The homeowner is sent to prison for 22 months for GBH.  No charges against the young reprobates for attempted burglary or the stolen Yamaha.

Predictable really.

It's part of  the concept of reasonable force to defend yourself, which reduces once the danger to you is over. And that is definitely the case when the burglars are successfully getting away. Would you rather GBH is a lesser crime than burglary?


If he'd given them a good kicking while they were still in the house and 'appeared to be armed and violent' he would have been treated very differently.

If they hadn’t of stolen the bike and robbed a house they wouldn’t have got hurt would they. 

Anyone remember the guy that had his motorbike stolen by two thieves and then he chased after them in his Vectra. He rammed them, killing one of them, earning himself ten years behind bars. If the thief hadn’t of nicked the bike he wouldn’t have died so very little sympathy I’m afraid.
Red mist is a terrible thing and we don’t evaluate the consequences, It is definitely the sort of thing that I’d have done to retaliate when I was younger, because anger takes over. Thankfully I’ve mellowed with age, so now Mrs YZ would be the one to chase after them as she’s tougher than me.

The criminal would have said that excessive force was used and the homeowner would be charged.

They were not even charged for attempted burglary and for stealing the bike.

Oh well...

What is worrying is that the 23 year old had 2 sprogs and one on the way. I'm sure they'll be enterprising lads though, and able to steal a Mondeo by age 10.

I would have done the same to be honest, and if I was to stumble across someone unlawfully in my home it would be us or them in my eyes f@ck the consequences. They would be beaten and made to wait for the police if I/we can manage it. (Wife wouldn’t stand idly by, she don’t like crims).

The police are really social workers these days, more interested in hurt feelings than solving crime.

Which is what a Chief Constable, or PCC, can't remember which, alluded to the other day. He reckoned that the police on the ground were more social/office workers, when they should be out doing more actual police work.

Some years ago we had some lads (older than kids) break into some heritage railway carriages, let off fire extinguishers, and tried to make off with some uniforms and other content.

I managed to catch one.

Called the Police and they started with the 'Ok, will get you a crime number and somebody will be in contact in a few days', I then said I had caught one.......que the arrival of a car on Blues and Twos.....they then admitted they were more concerned about what we would do to them than sorting the primary issue out!

Turn the clock back 50 years and the police would then have gone with the youngster to the parents house where:

The dad would have been very apologetic

Would have offered to pay for the damage

Would have given the youngster a right belting after the police had gone

Would have suspended priveledges like going out, watching tv

Would have deducted pocket money or pay to make up the compensation.

I missed off the weeks of shame with neighbours asking why the coppers were round no 11.


That doesn’t happen now as a) the coppers don’t come round and b) nobody knows there neighbours anymore ( generally)

My lad did something stupid when he was 15, which ended up with him being fined.
I paid the fine and paid for the damage he had caused straight away.
He then had to come to work with me for three months to pay me back every penny, with him getting none of his wages.
That was the last time he did anything that stupid.
He wont even do 31 in a 30 zone now.

Just been reading that over £120,000 has been raised for the homeowner who was jailed ,including one anonymous donation of £15,000 apparently an actor from Coronation Street was involved at the start .

Good for him👍 Apparently these two arseholes answered an add about a bike he was selling got the address and later tried to steal it lowlife wasters.
