Is it not a canister on yours Steve?  Is on mine anyway, undo the end cap if it's not been over tightened, and swap the paper filter over, oil all down your arm, oh joy ;D

22 mill socket or something like?

i have just had the same problem with mine,i used oil filter pliers and one of those ( halford proffesional one ) to hold the body together and it would not still budge,in the end i used one of these, end cap is 24mm to undo, inside canister it's  27mm to tighten.

well it worked for me,the band one just kept slipping as did the pliers, the chain one can be tightened up as much as you possibly can, maybe i loosened it slightly, the only other alternative is to change back to a spin on filter if it won't budge ( i had the kit just incase ), i suppose you would have to drill a hole in the housing and put a bar or screwdriver in the hole to hold it,hope you sort it in the end it's a right pain !!

Plus, you now need to knee cap the muppet who did the last oil change!  ;D

I tightened mine to 15nm 5 days ago, used 27ml socket (its cast on the cap) and used a new O ring seal as it was leaking slightly. I then decided to convert to a spin on type along with other work I'm doing today.See my post in this regard in General car chat section. Now mine also would not budge, causeing the body to turn finished up drilling the body to take a tommy bar it then released. I think could be the O rings are adhereing or possibly swelling somehow I couldn't believe how it had tightened after a few days my disbelief made me check the torque wrench and sure enough 15NM!!!
