General Car Chat / 2009 Corsa - any good?
« on: 16 October 2010, 10:36:08 »
Swmbo wants me to buy her a 2009 1.4 auto petrol Corsa 'Design' which looks and drives great.
Anybody know if it's a good idea.
Cheers.

General Discussion Area / Bathstore.
« on: 05 January 2011, 11:39:31 »
I'm looking at upgrading our bathroom and wonder if anyone has any experience of dealing with 'Bathstore', or comments about how well or otherwise they do their business.
Their products seem quite good on initial inspection, although like everywhere else they charge stupid prices for additional accessories etc.

General Discussion Area / Very IMBERessive.
« on: 29 October 2010, 15:59:53 »
Sent a key to Martin Imber on Monday and got it back fixed this morning. He even patched up the worn rubber button-covering with 'liquid' rubber, saving me the cost of a new shell.
Very pleased. Excellent serVice.
Thanks Martin.

General Discussion Area / Sometimes nice things happen.
« on: 26 October 2010, 10:55:32 »
Each year at the end of January we take a family break at one or other of the Center Parcs venues, and this year's visit was spoiled by SWMBO losing a make-up bag full of some of her best and most cherished jewellery. She thought it must have been left in the villa when we left, (to be honest very unlikely as she's very meticulous when packing etc.) but the helpful CP staff found no trace a couple of days later.
Imagine her delight, and my derisory comments, when yesterday she was sorting out some little-used swimming bags and pulled the whole caboodle out of a well disquised side pocket. She deserves that sort of luck, so I'm very happy for her.
A good job we hadn't claimed on an insurance policy, I suppose, (Waits for howls of derision.  ;) ;)) or made silly accusations against Center Parcs staff.
Should she return the pieces the family bought her to console her at the time, I ask myself?  ;D

Just three two more to go for a little promotion.
Should I do it?

General Discussion Area / We thought he'd never go!
« on: 18 November 2009, 16:35:40 »
We've just said goodbye to the King of Stoke who at this very minute is trying to find his way to the M6 from Southport.
Thanks Daz, for a very entertaining day and a fantastic job on my 2.6l cambelt, and for the tips freely given on various Omega matters.
It was great to see you again, and I enjoyed putting the world to rights afterwards.
Anyone wanting work done on an Omega must speak to Daz. He's competent, thorough and more than a little helpful in explaining things.
A great day's work and conversation.
All our love. Best wishes,
Bill & Margaret.

General Discussion Area / Powacaddy golf BUGGIES
« on: 06 July 2009, 09:29:01 »
A real shot in the dark here.
Are there any golfers on the forum who know of the whereabouts of one of these portable buggies being sold 2nd. hand.
There are some on ebay, and Electrokart in Ashford, Kent now sell the more up to date version having acquired the buggy part of the business from Powakaddy.
I've got a hip replacement op. looming and hopefully won't need a buggy in the too long term, so can't justify the cost of a new one.
Cheers,
Bill.

General Discussion Area / Water from de-humidifier
« on: 22 April 2009, 10:07:51 »
Is the water, (condensate), collected in a dehumidifier suitable for keeping for topping up batteries?
And what about letting SWMBO bathe in it?

General Discussion Area / Quality TV
« on: 29 March 2009, 12:36:53 »
Usually out playing golf on a Sunday morning but re-discovered Country File this morning. Top quality TV!
It's changing to 7pm. as from next Sunday so I'll be able to watch it regularly now.
Shouldn't be missed in my opinion.

General Discussion Area / Fate is so cruel.
« on: 20 March 2009, 19:29:39 »
We were going to go to a late Paddy's Night do at our little golf club on Saturday but were horrified to learn yesterday that the wife of one of the party, a close friend, was taken ill and died suddenly, allegedly from some form of virus.
Life is so, so cruel! She was a nursing sister working permanently in the local A & E dept. and was the most vibrant, fun loving person you could wish to meet. And she was only 34.
We don't know the full story yet, but it makes you wonder whether these hospital environments are safe places to work in. Her husband is obviously devastated, and we just can't take it in.
We don't know what to do to help him, other than be available if needed.

General Discussion Area / 2.6l Estate Front Pads & Discs.
« on: 12 March 2009, 14:01:42 »
Just been quoted Trade Club (Autobahnstormers) price of £72.83 + VAT for front discs and pads from Vx main dealer in Ormskirk. Seems good price to me. Any one agree?
Pads need replacing so I might as well invest in the disks as well, for upcoming MOT.

General Discussion Area / CHKDSK won't run properly.
« on: 05 March 2009, 09:45:39 »
I've tried to defrag. my hard disk, but analysing this aborts due to 'inconsitencies in the file system'. It tells me to run' CHKDSK' which I've done successfully many times before. This time I'm getting a warning that 'F' parameters are not present and it's running in 'read only' mode. It checks through the file system but then simply disappears.
Being a computer ignoramus, I don't know what this means. Can anyone help me by explaining how I can get 'CHKDSK' to complete please? I'm using Windows XP Home, by the way.
Cheers,
Bill.

General Discussion Area / HD DVD v. Blue ray
« on: 20 February 2009, 12:52:11 »
Just seen a report that Toshiba are to stop making HD DVD players/recorders, from March 1st., in effect withdrawing from the technology battle with Blue ray. They are undertaking to continue support for equipment already sold for some time apparently, but do you think it can be relied upon?
What effect is this going to have on the other HD DVD manufacturers? Is it still worth buying the 'old' technology? I was on the verge of buying a Toshiba Combi DVD/VCR/HDD outfit, but am not sure whether this would now be wise.
