We haven't had a socialist government in the country since 1979 when Callaghan lost to Thatcher.

Almost forty years. :)

Remember the state of the country when the last socialist govt. was finished with it ?  :o

Very few people are 100% left or right wing. Most people are a combination.

I'm a Christian* Socialist with Liberal views and a belief in the free market and knowledge that responsible entrepreneurial  business, is the only way. I.e treat everyone with respect, don't screw the workers, only create competition where it matters, and don't take more money than is fair.

Unfortunately, due to human nature, Communism doesn't work.  And neither does the capitalist system, because we are all intrinsically greedy, what something for nothing, and would happily see everyone else in poverty, if it meant we were very comfortable.

Note * I was brought up by Christians, but consider myself not to be one, but the way Christians believe that God created us all equal has never left me.

Plus my parents took me to look around a German Concentration Camp when I was 8, and this may have had an impact on my views, plus I was a teenager during the early 80's in Liverpool, and saw what the conservatives did to the north, which resulted in the rioting in Toxteth.

For as long as it takes.  :D
For the last couple of decades (at least) socialists have had a firm grip on most of the levers of power in this country, through their almost complete infiltration of the whole public sector. It doesn't make a great deal of difference who the current resident of 10 Downing st. is, in the grand scheme of things.
We need a PM to come along and do to the public sector what Thatcher did to the private sector in the 80,s.

This old dragon resided over the highest unemployment since the great depression in the thirties. She then created and exploited the north/south divide. Little wonder her own party stabbed her in the back at the end of 1990. :)

Most of what she did needed to be done and done quickly. Her big mistake - recently admitted by Norman Tebbit - was not to put the resources into rebuilding the North after she had saved the country from total ruin.
The "wets" in her party stabbed her in the back because she was a Eurosceptic. Posthumous revenge was served cold in June 2016.  :)

I'm sure Mr Heseltine and co are really sorry for what they did. :)

Had the unions been kicked in to touch in the early/mid seventies, most of those unemployed in the early '80s might have been working.

Equally, had Blair/Brown not squandered the results of Thatchers hard work in the name of New Labour, we would be in a much better place now...

Not that in the grand scheme of things we're doing badly...

Heseltine should be hung for treason. The famous Europhile said several years ago "the age of the nation state is dead". In other words, he wants to abolish the UK and allow it to disappear into the U.S.E.
I believe Juncker the drunkard repeated this in the last couple of days. Claiming that the answer to all Europes problems were to abolish its nation states and just have one big country.
They still don't get it do they ?  ::)
