This is the result of our motorway pile up, the car infront rear ended the car infront of him at 50 mph, we were behind him towing our luxury villa and did not stand a chance.... luckily we were all ok with no injuries except the car grrrr

ive done the same and its so annoying, but in the end i only had myself to blame, people in front are entitled to have an accident if the are that way inclined so give yourself enough room to stop, esp if towing a plastic pretend house.

hmmm... you have a point but the van had moved into my braking zone and 2 seconds later he had crashed.... when towing a caravan it does not matter how much space you leave there is always somone that wants to pull infront of you reducing braking distances.... I agree with you though just in this case there was nowhere and nothing i could do except pray !!!

always the case in heavy traffic,i seen a few who do it to hgv,well they learn the hard way

Ooh, it's sad seeing a car like that, but good you're ok though!

The damage doesn't look terminal to me, at least it wouldn't have been a write-off in Norway (worth at least £15k here, in that condition)..

well it has been written off, the cheeky beggars at the insurance company offered £800, i challenged it and he said i could get a 2.0ltr select for that and there were plenty about,,, I had to point out the error of his ways and evetually got what it would cost me to replace.

now just got to find a suitable replacement :-/

So buy it back from the insurance company for £100 and have it fixed for £500 using non-brand-new-and-cost-a-bloody-fortune panels. Anyone breaking a same-colour car should be able to provide all the bits you need.

Will be a Cat C write-off and need a VIC check, but if you like the car, then it's worth it.

Insurance companies are not interested in whether a car can actually be repaired, only in the cheapest way for them to discharge their obligation to the customer. Lots of perfectly repairable cars get written off simply because the repairs cost more than the book value of the car, so they choose the cheapest option. Especially in the case of older semi-classic cars owned by enthusiasts, it is criminal. I've known really good cars get written off and scrapped just because of a bent wing.

Anyway, look at the cost of all the new parts needed at Vx prices, add insurance-job-specialist body shop labour costs, maybe straightening bent chassis legs on a jig, paints, and VAT and I'd say £3,800 or whatever it was is to be expected.
