It seems to be the same story everywhere.

Yep. 180 odd housesrabbit hutches going up in our village at the moment. It'll bring loads of extra council tax in. Not one penny will go towards extra infrastructure.

Not having any kids I was completely ignorant of this and just wondered why there are so many chelsea tractors on the school run. Now I know. :o

All this "choice" nonsense that Labour have invented is a poor excuse for failing to provide a decent service. If every school, hospital, doctor's surgery, etc. was performing adequately it wouldn't matter which one you went to, and you'd be happy to just get the one who's catchment area you were in.

As it stands, I suspect if a school performs badly it's now a self sustaining situation because anyone who cares will avoid it. Meanwhile the government aren't at fault because "they gave you a choice".

Thanks kevin, how do you know which key it is, i have looked on my key, outer and inner but all the stamp marks have gone and there is nothing to say which it is.

If you open it up it will probably say T-AM on the PCB inside. :y

They come up one ebay quite a lot, but make sure you get the correct type. :y

If it's the delphi type you're after as opposed to Megamos I have one, bought in error ::)

.. having said that, yours is probably the same as mine. Megamos T-AM?

every  k series i have ever seen has the stat bolted behind the waterpump housing?

Yes. If you look at the way the coolant flows the thermostat is positioned where the cold water returns to the water pump from the rad. bottom hose. So, engine warms up, bypass plumbing routes the hot water around the base of the thermostat until it opens and then the thermostat is doused on stone cold water from the radiator so it shuts again. The result is that this cycle repeats and the cooling fluctuates wildly until the rad. is hot enough that the returning water doesn't slam the thermostat shut.

The other issue with the K series is that the thermostat is in the bottom rad. hose to promote quick warm-up but it means the engine can overshoot normal running temperature and then get shock cooled several times before the system reaches an equilibrium with the thermostat partially open.

I have heard that there are issues with the location of the liners and head and accuracy of the deck heights on the liners but I'm not sure if they are things that become apparent when tuning them (which most of my K series owning mates have done) or as standard. There are also a lot of myths and urban legends floating around regarding the HGF problems, some of which I may have regurgitated above. :-[

It remains a great engine for its weight. If only Rover had had the funds to take it from the prototypes we have now to a production version we would be laughing. I have at least one mate who has been running a 230BHP K series for many years with the scholar conversion with no problems whatsoever. He does spank it some too (to 8K or more).

Apparently the shock cooling issue is worse on the MGF due to the long runs of pipe between rad. and engine.

Was just about to say, IIRC there's water heating around the inlet manifold / throttle body, and probably a water connection or two that pass through the inlet manifold-to-head gasket.

Might be worth trying to pressurise the system cold (schrader valve in an old length of heater hose or expansion tank cap) if it seals up when hot.

I think the line was from Lock, Stock and 2 smoking barrels:

"I rather hate traffic wardens"... ;D

Honestly, there are some jobs that wouldn't be my cup of tea but I appreciate the fact that other people get great satisfaction doing them.

Maybe it's just me but I think it would take a very "special" type of person to get home from a job being an arrogant, grumpy, inflexible jobsworth who makes other people's lives a misery feeling any kind of satisfaction of a job well done.

Granted we need traffic wardens or the place would be chaos by why have they all had the charisma gene removed?

So yes, be a witness. [smiley=evil.gif]

said he couldn't change anything now that the ticket had been issued.

.. and then traffic wardens have the gaul to complain when they get their ticket machine rammed up....

She needs a pet to keep her occupied. As it happens I have got a particularly daft black cat for sale...

It belongs to Mrs. KW but she won't mind...  ::)

Sadly, you are not of zero value to the credit card company. Every time you use the card, they get a percentage of the sale from the retailer. They make a great deal of their profit in this way. The more you spend on the card, the more profit they make on your purchases. This filters back down to us in higher prices in the shops.

I don't know so much :-/

Handling cash, cheques, etc. costs shops money too. Cash can be forged, it can be stolen from them, so they need safes, security, secure collection of the takings, a float of change in each till, etc.

The fact that very few shops will now discount for cash, IMHO, and very few (except small businesses) worry about small CC transactions of a couple of quid or so makes me think they're actually getting their money's worth out of credit card transaction fees.

I'd also rather carry a credit card than cash. If some scumbag stole it they wouldn't get very car (not at my expense, at any rate) and they'd be traceable and more likely to get their collar felt.

I have loads of CC's as I've been a card tart for years.

 ;D

The very fact you can do this shows how much money they are making from mugscustomers who are less careful and fall into their trap. Credit cards are very handy for avoiding having money sitting in current accounts, etc. that pay bu66er all interest...

However, if they ever started charging annual fees again, mine would be heading for the shredder.

Incidentally, I always keep a couple in my wallet because you never know when one of them will spot some "uncharacteristic activity" and pull the plug, usually when you're a long way from home. >:(

They're freezing the debts of some people who've got in a little deep, but need to sucker a few more quid out of those with a good credit rating to compensate.

When the last facelift Omegas are 15/20 years old what will we be driving?

Facelift Omegas, hopefully. Anything remotely comparable new will either have been banned or cost a couple of grand to tax for a year.

you'll be hard pressed to change thrust washer at cambelt do i reckon - shear amount of manpower to get box off, unless doug has his lift by then....

If one's gone it may well have mullered the facing surfaces too, so not a 10 minute job even when you've got the gearbox open to do it properly.

Still, better to know about it before it hits the fan.
