green liquid leak
« on: 10 September 2013, 22:56:25 »

Noticed a leak while under the car tody, not dripping but wet and a drop waiting to fall.  I assumed it was the air con as it looked like marker dye (yellowy green) and it was in that area but I got distracted and forgot to investigate it further.  Now it's dark outside :(.  Thinking about it later the air con is gas not liquid so it can't be that can it? It was under the engine  n/s near the wishbone as I recall. Air Con/brakes/power steering all work OK. My coolant is red.

the refrigerant is a gas, but oil with the dye in it isn't  ;) ;)

thanks it may well be the a/c then, it definitely looks like the flourescent dye.  The a/c  was empty and was refilled July 2012 and still works but maybe it is a very slow leak.  Hopefully it is just old dye and condensation, will check.

My screen wash is pale blue :(.

Yep, sounds like the flourescent PAG oil is leaking from somewhere, the dowty washers ont he aircon compressor fittings can cause this.

The aircon setups have gas plus oil in them, normaly the oil contains the trace die, the refrigerant is actualy a liquid when running on the high side post condenser (hence why there is the small exapnsion vessel that gets mega cold in th engien bay so the last trace of liquid is boild off before the compressor tries to compress it!)
