I bought this manual 3.0 in September, for cheap knowing it will cost me reasonable amount of money to fix, but I plan to keep it as a summer time car anyway, so the work can be done slowly.
It's driveable, has MOT and more important - I was on a hunt for one of these for a long time.
So here she is

Right away the work started. As any Omega, this one had some rust problems. What I've learned in almost 10 years of Omega ownership is where to find the hidden rust.
If your Omega has foggy windows look for this in driver/passenger side footwell
(https://i.postimg.cc/bwV1ZZHS/IMG-20201010-163503.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
And fixed with new metal welded in

Removing the carpets revealed another spot

Repaired, new plate welded in and protected

Spare wheell well was also rusty - repaired with new and protected

Front Bose speakers were fubar but I found an audio repair shop that was able to repair both

The rust on the lower door edges visible on upper pic was also repaired

As usual ::) Glowebox repair

Nice work. Do it properly= do it once. :y

Cleaning the sticky rubber from doorcards with degreaser and cleaning wipes went really easy. They look brand new now
(https://i.postimg.cc/6Q0q8gNj/IMG-20201112-112013.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
Plastic under door handles was flocked due to being scratched and I think it came out nice

Reverse ring broken? Can't get it into reverse? No problem ::)

Well, she looks nice on the outside, this is the interior now

(https://i.postimg.cc/qB8n1MZR/IMG-20201121-115254.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
Rust work is done, interior is done, I have some new goods for her allready but they need to wait until the lockdown is over :(
(https://i.postimg.cc/6pBD83FG/IMG-20201119-142933.jpg) (https://postimages.org/)
I also bought four new summer tyres which will be fitted when bushings and wheel alignment is done.
Next part will be engine time, need to buy new radiator, battery, AC condenser while I'm there etc...to be continued
-
Certainly coming along nicely 8)

I think that's an excellent solution. If it were mine, I would also flock the 'carbon fibre' trim that runs along the rest of the door so that everything matches. On the dark colour interiors this would require a keen eye to spot it isn't a factory finish :y
-
I did some trial and error with flocking bigger flat surfaces but got mixed results. However it is good solution for smaller uneven items like plastic part on pic

Fair enough :y
-
Looking good :)
-
Good job! Your project is progressing much better than mine :)
-
I'm impressed :y
Not normally a fan of light interior colours but that seems to work.

Cant see from image, but was the black plate holed? Did you fix the black plate, or just weld over the bulkhead?
My black plate has quite a big hole, but not sure I can get to the edge to weld a plate on, due to where its rusted. I need to clean it up a bit more to find where the good metal is... ...or look at other ways of sealing - its only got to last through until probably 6 months.
-
Wire brush it, West System epoxy and woven glass mat/tape, then spray stone chip onto the outside.
Or a foil tray and sikaflex if you cba to do a reasonable job.

The fibreglass option was considered, and not yet ruled out. Though same issue, as I think usable metal is out of reach/view
-
Foil and Sikaflex it is then :D
Presumably you have pulled the glovebox? If you need the airbag out of the way, the cover is only held in by a long bolt easily removed once the passenger vent is removed. (the three torx bolts underneath have to be undone to remove the glovebox) ;)
-
New metal plate was welded where the rust was. I had the same problem on my 2.5 v6 but on the driver's side. Rust hole was small, but enough to leak under the insulation foam.

On the black plate?
-
I don't do welding so I can't tell you that. I just know that the welder said he never wanted to see me again after welding that tight unreachable spot.
-
What is the purpose of the black plate ?
-
It forms part of the bulkhead, but would be in the way when the shell is assembled ;)
It gets fitted and bonded in after painting
-
What is the purpose of the black plate ?
I think its all part of the cup that makes the scuttle drain.

You wish...
Item #1 it is actually the dash substructure that dictates* right or left hand drive...

*the shell also varies as the cabin air intake/engine bay panel is actually part of the shell. That black panel is added during final assembly it's probably what those bolts on the outside of the A pillar (above the upper door hinge) hold in place ;)
-
Ah, the left / right hand drive part solves the riddle of why its there. :y

It has been a while since I've posted update. She lives, MOT-ed and on the road again after six months :y

A lot of work has been done, rust repaired, rear spring were broken, brand new tyres, new radiator, AC condenser and dryer, AC compressor - blowing cold now :y , SAI ditched, multiram repaired and working corectly now, new sound deadening and insulation added, sound system remains original Bose, replaced headliner etc....
She flew trough MOT two weeks back with flying colours. And will keep her on the road until September. Then back to hybernation. Snow and salt won't do her any good.
The amount of work done is guite big, I forgot a lot of it. She drives smooth, very quiet on motorway.
I believe I'll keep this one for a long time
-
Nice looking Omega , your hard work has paid off definitely a keeper.
-
Looking good :y, the rust and the fuel consumption is the killer for these cars now :(
-
Rust worries me the most with omegas...fuel consumption is just something I have to live with🤷

Exactly the same mindset here. :y

Well done glad you are enjoying it. Slovenia is a beautiful country I have been drinking Puklavec and friends wine for a while it’s very good I will be visiting as soon as this Covid crap is over👍

I say this exact words almost every day ;D I'm currently driving my eleventh..
Great looking Omega, greetings from Novi Sad !
-
A little bit of update. Omega is in for a rust repair, major one. It will take a long time but it will be worth it in the end. I was afraid some more rust will be uncovered in the process but she is not that bad as it shows.

That was already done two years ago ;D Thanks

Any idea when it will be back on the road?
-
Paintjob should be done by 18-th June, then another week maybe...sooner - better
-
Very satisfying to bring back a beautiful machine like this in perfect condition.
Congratulations on the restoration!
:y :y :y
-
Paintjob was done on friday and she is beautifull. I'll post pics when all the work is done, at least a week more I think. Bellow are two pics of all the goodies to replace, already waiting in the boot

She's finally home. New Sachs shocks and Kilen springs fitted, new cills, new rear panels, she's repainted completely from bumper to bumper.
All it needs now is boot lip spoiler, that should be fitted next week.

Very nice indeed!
May I suggest replacing those yellow turn signals with clear ones?
-
I wouldn't mind but on the other hand I'm trying to keep it in stock condition, as from the factory...Any link for known good clear turn signals?

I managed to find one. There is (at least) one more somewhere :)
I am willing to give them to you if you have idea how could I send them cheaply :y
