Although only 39"  my TV cost circa £300 about 8yrs ago it's a brand called Cello it's 1080p and HD does everything I need it to without problems.
Cello make a lot of the low end branded stuff, and a lot of the Supermarket Specials.  If it works, and youre happy, all :y

There is better stuff available, and prices have utterly crashed, so better stuff available.

I would avoid LGE (having deeper inside knowledge of LGEs component sourcing strategy and the delights of Samwah capacitors)
I think Humax use the same brand caps in their DVRs. With expected results.

Time to get the iron out methinks ;D

Samsung work for us
My biggest complaint is the app support can be flakey on the Smart ones, and apps often not updated and stop working. Though other manufacturers aren't much better either.

The other issue with Samsung is no Freeview Play available, which is a ballache if you are used to using it.

That said, my current Samsungs are all a few years old, and work well stull :).

It serves my needs and is light years ahead of what it replaced :)
Yes, compared to even the best CRTs, the shittiest 10yr old LCD is streets ahead.

Shame, as my C&G 224 only covered CRTs, so is now pointless ;D

Well, I know who to come to when the flyback in my 1084S dies, then  :y

I think they are firmly in the "bargain basement" bin these days?

Yeah, the scrapman ;D

Have you seen what even a dead one goes for on fleaBay recently? :o

[edit] Not that I'd really call you - I used to repair CRTs back in the day too .. admittedly with no formal training beyond "Don't touch that bit, it'll hurt".

For the record, I can confirm that it does hurt.

On my C&G course, although we had the correct discharge stuff, our tutor just told us to use 2 big screwdrivers, as it was faster and less shite to carry around.

I still clench every time I do it.

TV repair wasn't my preferred specialism in the qualification, but as the first 2 years class size dwindled, so the 3rd year could run, we went with a majority :)
