The other consideration with some XC90s and most CRVs is that they are wwd not awd*, so not so great for towing.

* I know the R280Cdi is only two wheel drive, but at least it is the back wheels.

CR-V's normally drive via the front wheels with the rear wheels kicking in via a electronic clutch which is activated when the front ABS sensors detect front wheel slip.
Similar system on most VAG cars (4motion ect)

No manual override

That's assuming that it's actually got a rear diff ;) Wwd CRVs look identical to the awd models. Same with the Volvo XCs ;)

At least the Mercedes 4matic system, whilst automatic, is rear wheel drive when in 2wd mode. (on the models that are tradionally rear wheel drive as opposed to the Clit based A Class derivitives.

Base model 2.4s for the most part. D3s and Drive E on the slightly newer ones...

The Phase 1 and its facelifts ran from 2002 - 2014ish iirc.

Yep plenty of front wheel drive ones about (transverse engine setup and Aisin box), haldex based AWD so need to watch the front/rear tyre tread deltas or it takes the Haldex clytch plates out,
