Title: Battery - siren - Aarrghh!!
Post by: orangepants on 01 February 2008, 18:49:35
Hi All. I've got 2.2 facelift model and have just disconnected the battery to fit a new one and the alarm keeps sounding everytime I try to re-connect the leads. And I CANNOT get it to shut up! I've tried locking/unlocking the doors, turning ignition on etc. Any ideas before I go completely deaf?!

have you tried turning the ignition on afer you connect the battery, as this deactivates the alarm ;)

Yep, tried that - no joy! The engine even starts but the alarm keeps going off.

Is it the car horn alarm or the "power sounder" ?? if the latter it can be disconnected as they do go faulty, and if its being triggered by the battery and not its own internal power it sounds faulty to me !!

Yes, I think its the power sounder (theres a sticker referring to it under the bonnet, right?). Its definately not the horn alarm as I've heard that before. This one is almost ultrasonic and makes you feel like your skull is going to shatter when you've got your head under the bonnet! Where is it located? Earplugs on standby...!

Hi orangepants, dont forget your power sounder has nicads inside so it may get the hump when you disconnect it. mine went off for about half an hour (could'nt do anything about it) but when it stopped, the peace and quiet was lovely. by the way its under the scuttle (drivers side), managed to disconnect mine without removing wipers and scuttle, i just undid the first bolt on the left hand side and lifted the scuttle enough to get my hand in there to unplug it.
