Savage callsign is used by 100Sqn based at RAF Leeming in Yorkshire. They aren't a training squadron themselves. One of their roles is to fly as 'aggressors', which means they play the baddies in war games allowing front line fighter units (and warships) to practice intercepting a target which is 'fighting' to get away, or maneuvering to try and shoot you down.

100Sqn are the only RAF unit other than the Red Arrows still flying the Hawk T1 - Training at RAF Valley is done using the much newer Hawk T2. The only other unit still flying the Hawk T1 is 736 NAS at RNAS Culdrose, who use the Hawk to simulate missile attacks on RN Warships whilst the warships are working up for deployment.

The retirement of all Hawk T1 (except for the Reds) was announced in the Defence Review last month, so the future for 100 Sqn and 736 NAS is uncertain/bleak.

They are although one short at the moment ::)

Depends where you go. I took my ML to a body shop where he replaced the lower chrome bit of the bumper (best part of £500 on its own) & painted half the coloured bit .... £1100 but he knew an insurance company was paying.

My daughter took her Yaris to another body shop 100yds away run by a couple of Polish lads. She had both corners of the rear bumper painted (car park damage) and virtually one side of the car sprayed due to someone with a key. It all came to £600. I could find fault in the Yaris paint job .... I found a run at the front .... but on the whole, it wasn't a bad job for the money.

My favourite painter died!  :'(
Why are people so inconsiderate!  :D
John worked till silly o'clock 7 days a week .... never took a day off. Not sure how old he was but believe he was only late 60s when he died  :'(

Working with paint and filller  dust doesnt tend to extend life expectancy, especially old school non mask wearers

General Discussion Area / Re: Monaro Top Gear
« on: 08 April 2021, 20:41:52 »
I'm sure I've written here before, but the 'new' Top Gear is actually quite watchable.  Whether that is comparing it to the Chris Evans era, I don't know, but it's gone back to a similar format as the Clarkson, May, Hammond era.

If you aren't completely adverse to technology, Chris Harris' has a brilliant YouTube channel.  His natural enthusiasm for cars is evident in all the video's he shares.

Back to the Monaro.  I'm pretty sure I'd never own one.  I really don't understand why Vauxhall imported it at all.  A large coupe with terrible fuel consumption was never going to work, especially back then.

The VXR8...... yes.  A big 4 Door Saloon.... a useable waste of money.  I reckon if it was available in the Estate (like it was in Aus), they would have sold more.

EDIT TO ADD:  I've never owned an Estate car......... but if the VXR8 was available, I'd buy one.

I quite like the new trio on top gear too, anyone seen the top gear tribute to Sabine Schmitz, most presenters past and present were on it and nicely put together :y

He surprised quite a few, Just like Lewis did in his 1st year. :y

After these many months finally got to have a reasonable look at the car.Compression test[cold engine] showed figures of 79 54 54 75[cylinders 1-4 respectively]number 2 spark plug was blacker than the other three which all appeared the same colour.Managed to get it to start, the revs surged between just under 1,000 to 2,000 three or four times settled for a couple of seconds at just below 1,000 rose up to 2,000 again before dropping back to an even idle just under 1,000.Large amounts of white smoke came from the tailpipe with wisps of white smoke from behind the heatshield just below exhaust manifold and taking the cap off the header tank produced lots of white smoke out of the tank although the coolant level seemed to remain constant.

Those compressions are very low if in psi, I would expect over 150 and maybe nearer 200 on a healthy motor

I also read the the older you are the less effects you get, maybe true as my 91 year old Mum had no ill effects at all

Thinking that through... If you have no reaction, does that mean you have already had Batflu  :-\

could be ..... I had the AZ jab with no effects/reaction other than a slightly tender arm for a couple of days. I had 'Batflu' back in October

I had the AZ jab and the only side effect was that I felt a bit hungover next morning, cleared by lunchtime though :y
