Also can you scroll through your phone book on the telematics and it displays in the MID also?

How tidy is that!

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Headlamp Beam flattening lever
« on: 18 December 2008, 10:29:34 »
Hi, finally after weeks of not getting the time, I have finally fitted my projector headlamps which I sourced from a gent on this 'ere forum.

They got polished up to remove the nicotine staining, and crap on the front and are now back up to as new finish.

They've got fresh bulbs all round - Osram Nightbreakers, which seem to do the job, and were going for a song on the fleabay.

My question is this, the beam flattenning lever for continental driving, should it be in the up or the down position for normal use?

I've checked my manuals and there's no mention of it, as my original lamps didn't have such luxury aids!

Also, the levelling motors are attached, but the main lens parabola moulding flops around like a spaniels' ears.   :-?

Next week i'll pop into my friendly MOT bod, and get them set. Till then, All help greatfully appreciated.

Dennis, the Kenwood is a great choice, but be mindfull the 5220 needs additional modules such as the satnav receiver and the BT module in order to get those bits to work.

Make sure  you look at the 5220BT as this has the satnav and the BT all built in. (satnav supplied by Garmin, and the BT handsfree is Parrott so i'm led to believe.)

I've been looking at head units for when I look at the interior of the car next year.

I don't have an iPod, but I was looking at perhaps an iPhone as I really do get bored with having to crank the volume up when I play a CD and knowck it back down when I go back to tuner.

I've seen two inspired offerings from non mainstream manufacturers, both under £200.  I wonder if the big players like clarion/alpine/kenwood will follow suit and effectively just rip out the cassette/CD mechanism as these two have done.

And of course, one of them has all the phone kit functionality built in, and they supply the system built into kenwood products (Garmin supply kenwood satnavs).

I don't know what they're like, but the parrot unit is actually quite Omega sympathetic!

Well, it would seem that the error was totally unintentional.

ILovemyElite like many of us on here got confused and saw Xenon and HID as being the same thing.  Either way we've sorted this out now, and looking through my pm's he's matched the procve which I was offerred a set of projector lamps from another sterling bloke on here.

Thinking about it, it's probably the same as an aircraft or automotive hydraulics engineer getting the raging hump because that's what plumbers call themselves as well!

I know that not so long ago I had to explain to a guy at work why Xenon bulbs were not the same as HID, and given that the lamps outwardly look the same, perhaps it's such an easy mistake to make if you don't know about balast packs etc.

Anyway, the matter is now sorted, and I have to say most amiably and amicably which says alot about the character of the seller.  :y

There standard projectors, you can tell by the rubber covers and level motor which are just visable in the picture

Thanks Mark, I feared as much.

Here's the view from behind in any case...

bugger  :'(

Here Was the advert thread... I'd based the purchase on the second one down.

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1219863570

and the header dies read:
Xenons/HIDS including all the bits that go with em

i'll get a photo of the back of the headlamps and post it up.

Sorry to sound a little pissed about this, but I turned down a set of projectors at half the proce from another member on here who i've bought from before on the basis that these were HID's.  :(

Right here are the pictures of the front and the underside:

front:

Underside:

Bearing in mind that on the original sale picture on this forum it advertised them as ELITE HID Xenon headlamps.

If they are just projectors it's my fault for not asking the right questions to start with I suppose.

12
Right, today I received my headlamps.

One question....

I can't see any ballast packs on them, is this internal?

How does one tell the difference?

(OH, the glass has come up a treat, so may post a how-to if anyone is interested!)

To get the headlights to work you plug them in..

Curtesy of the gentleman that is iLoveMyElite I'm soon to be the proud owner of a set of HID headlamps for my pre-facelift old girl.

I'd like to ask, other than the headlamp washer arrangement and the levelling sensors on the suspension arms what wiring will I need to connect up to get them to work?

I'm going to scrutinise the wiring diagrams, as the new FAI front wishbones I have can accept the level sensor - however, it's not first on my list of priorities.

Definitely IR.

The fob only unlocks the doors when it's within eyeshot of the sensor on the sunroof panel - I practically have to be about two feet away from the car or else it won't open.
