Title: Wish I was a dog whisperer
Post by: Varche on 17 February 2018, 17:43:59
Our dog is house trained and for the most part does what is required. He is half Irish Setter half Podenco and we saved him after he was abandoned. That was several years ago. He has the stubborn trait inherited from the setter side but is very intelligent and knows when he does wrong.

From time to time he breaks the rules and eliminates near his kennel. He is on a chain when not with us. Eliminates is a posh word to save you saying piss and crap.

My theory is seperation anxiety but it is only a theory.  Right now I wish we didn't have a dog.

Apart from a 4yr period[2006-2010] I've always had a dog.Currently have a Sha Pei who's coming up 8yrs old,she still has the odd "event" now and again but given she spends most of the time alone while I'm at work she doesn't do too badly.Even though there's only me and her these days I'm still not sure I'm the boss :D ;D ;D

A well trained dog should be able to clean up it's own shit...... :)

Well when I'm out with her I always clean up the shit part but I draw the line at mopping up this piss :D But yes if in the house then it's a case of "clean up in aisle three" :D

Many years ago we had a mutt that would re-eat it's own crap. I suppose it was trying to be 'green' and recycle it's own waste. :)

My friend had a dog that would go round the garden looking for where the cats had buried their shit and then she would dig it up and eat it!  ::)

If my mate yelled at her she would look all guilty and slink away with her tail between her legs.  ;D

IME from owning puppies to when they died the older a dog gets the more cantankerous it is and a more of an unreasonable effort it is to do the right thing in the toilet department, especially in the last year of their life. ??? ??? ???

Summer bred dogs with going outside are generally better than winter ones. :D :D :D

Ours does that .. and there's a lot of cat crap in the garden as we're surrounded by them and have two of our own. Yelling at him doesn't seem to work though; I think if you look up "selective hearing" in the dictionary there's a picture of a Staffie..

Our Mutt, Molly, has only ever had the odd accident in the house & it's been when she was unwell. She's tried her best to do the right thing even then, back door matt & on one occassion a dinner plate that had been left on the floor!!!  :o :o :o

Well he ran off yesterday on some sort of adventure. He even found time to roll in some elimination - other dog I think.

We are goingback to basics with the training .
