Title: The agony of toothache.
Post by: Field Marshal Dr. Opti on 27 June 2018, 16:30:37
I've just endured an emergency appointment to extract an upper wisdom tooth.

The pain of toothache is, well, f*ucking painful... :'(........and you can't get away from it.

It cost £110 but I would have paid ten times that to be rid of the pain.

A cheap fix
many dentists insist on root canal and filling such problems £500+

many people also don't know that there is a set price for things and you can say "just take it out"

should not take too long for your tongue to keep looking for said missing tooth  ;D

At the moment  it feels as if the hole is larger than Kent.

Fortunately the gap can't be seen ...........I don't want to end up looking like some toothless wino.

I think I paid £65 for root canal and associated fillings, which took 3 trips, and included the next 2 checkups (I'm private)

He must.

My private female dentist wouldn't even let me look her up and down for £65. :)

I had to have a wisdom tooth out in Bucharest a few years ago when I was working there.  ::)

It was an interesting experience, they made me wear a lead chain mail poncho thing when they X-rayed me!  :o

It was only twenty quid, though and like Lord Opti I was desperate to be out of pain!  :(

Nope, no subscription or other insurance.  I didn't think the charges were unreasonable, and when I found, following the last 2 checkups, that I had checkup credits due to the work, I thought it was excellent value.

WOW
sounds too good to be true
sounds too cheap even if you did have a dental plan subscription
though , long nose pliers are an even cheaper option  :D ;D

Was the dentist situated in a BDSM club, Sir Tig?

Were you allowed to keep your trousers on while they performed the extraction? ::) ::) ::)

The dentist was a youngish Romanian girlie!  :)

She was only a wee little thing and struggled to pull the tooth out.  :-\  At one point in the proceedings she climbed up on the chair and straddled me to get a better grip on things.   :y. I kid you not!  ;D

I'm sorry to say that I let the side down and didn't score for England that evening, as the pain kinda distracted me....  :(

I had a similar experience about 15 years ago. Young, slightly built female dentist was extracting a back tooth and got it half way out but didn't have the strength to pull it the ret of the way.
In the end her and her assistant were pulling and yanking at it together until it eventually came out. then had to have the hole in the gum stitched up to round off a pleasant day::)
My worst experience was about 10 years ago when I went to have another troublesome back tooth extracted. It came out in parts, one root at a time and the dentist showed me that each root had a sack of puss attached to the end of it.
He then explained that these had been growing through the wall of my sinus, so that now had a big hole in it, and this was potentially a serious problem. So he then had to slice my gum into strips and then sew the strips over the hole.
He told me not to sneeze for 3 months, at which time I told him that it was spring time and I suffer from hayfever, so that was unlikely to happen.
He mentioned that I was lucky he was a qualified dental surgeon rather than just a common or garden dentist. I didn't feel very lucky.  ;D
He then prescribed me very strong painkillers as I would definitely need them once the numbing stuff had worn off.
I didn't make it to the chemist before that happened. I was driving along the road screaming to my self in agony. ;D
When I got to the chemist, they told me they couldn't give me the painkillers as the dentist had no legal right to prescribe tablets that strong, so I had to settle for less pokey ones. ::)
I avoided  dentists for a while after that. Don't have that many teeth left now, so the worst of it must be behind me.  :D

Got an abcess under a bottom front tooth over 30 years ago. Where the swelling made the tooth hit my top teeth, I made the bad move of pushing down on the tooth and bursting the abcess and went into toxic shock. A few hours of sweating like being in a sauna while shivering like an Eskimo where looking back I think I had Sepsis. After this the tooth was always slight loose and has got looser and looser and I easily pulled it out with my finger a couple of weeks ago and you can see how badly the root part of the tooth is damaged. :o :o :o

For any slight pains these days where I have poor gums I've recently bought a set of detal tools and use those to clear around the painful part and it is normally much better or perfectly fine the next day. :y

I think it was something like that, that the Romanian girlie dentist used on me.  :-\

Although when she straddled me, it looked more like a large set of bolt croppers that she was wielding!  :o  Maybe the opiates that she administered before hand altered my perspective a little?  :-\  ::)  ;D
